From preparation to final fitting, this genderbent Lich King Arthas armor truly demanded tremendous effort. The most striking components of the entire set are without doubt the pauldrons and the waist girdle. To embody that overbearing heavy-armor presence, I used high-density EVA foam as the core foundation, applying complex battle-damaged weathering across the surface. The base layers blend deep charcoal and black, brushed along the edges with silver and antique brass highlights to cultivate the weathered metallic patina of endless campaigns. The colossal skull reliefs resting on the shoulders in particular dictated the overall textural quality—making them too heavy would crush the shoulders, while too light would look cheap and plastic.
Wearing this breastplate and exaggerated pauldrons, the physical weight feels genuinely substantial; walking requires constant core stabilization to keep the center of gravity from shifting. To balance the ruggedness of the heavy plating, the design incorporates bold exposed skin around the midriff, paired with black shorts and fur-trimmed greaves. This preserves the character's raw martial power while infusing a sleek, distinctly feminine edge. The skull reliefs and fur borders on the boots visually ground the lower half with weighted presence. Every armor edge was carefully sealed and lined with foam and soft fabric inside to prevent chafing during hours of walking convention floors.
For hair and makeup, the central challenge was pairing pale porcelain foundation with piercing ice-blue contacts to balance an otherworldly inhumanity with Arthas's tragic solemnity and the Lich King's cool detachment. The silver-white wig was styled with volumized roots and gentle waves, ensuring rich dimensional movement whether swinging the broadsword or looking downward in brooding contemplation. The skulls and chains adorning the belt were tuned repeatedly to ensure they wouldn't tangle while walking, while heightening the dark fantasy aesthetic. The black velvet-textured cape boasts an exquisite drape, unfurling in the breeze to dramatically elevate visual tension.
The heavy-duty greatsword was by far the most physically demanding prop; the hilt and crossguard are dense with sculpted details and weighted to deliver authentic presence. Dragging or resting this massive blade on my shoulder was genuinely exhausting. Bringing this gear on location, it felt as though the winds of Lordaeron had swept all the way to Dalaran; the moment I hoisted that colossal weapon onto my shoulder, the grand epic soul of World of Warcraft came alive naturally. I hope everyone feels the freezing chill that belongs to the Lich King.
