When entering the venue, the rain had not completely stopped, and the puddles reflecting the exhibition hall's signboards brought a highly realistic on-site atmosphere to this day's anime convention instead. I was a bit apprehensive earlier when checking the forecast saying a typhoon might come, but actually walking around, the crowd flow and enthusiasm at the BW site were not affected by the weather at all—everyone browsed what they wanted to browse, and shot what they wanted to shoot.
This time, I used a Sony A7M5 paired with a 2470GM2 throughout. Friends who are familiar with scanning conventions should know how painful it is to change lenses on a typhoon or rainy day, as it is highly easy to get dust inside or wet the sensor. The biggest benefit of carrying this zoom lens is that no matter whether finding a low angle on the puddled ground or wanting to pull closer for some half-body close-ups, a twist of the lens settles it all. Close range can grab expressions, mid-to-far views can take in the environment, and there was almost no need to pull out the lens bag in between, truly achieving 'one lens all the way.' It is an excellent experience for Sony A7M5 portrait photography.
Quite a few dynamic poses were captured in the photos. For example, balancing on a single leg while holding a microphone, or reaching out to interact. Since the ground was wet and slippery on a rainy day, performing these actions actually heavily tested the stability of the shoes and body. However, the white thick-soled boots looked unexpectedly beautiful on this puddled ground, and the black and white contrast looked sharper on a rainy day. That squatting photo utilized the reflection in a rainy day puddle to form a perfect mirror image; the buildings and red pillars reflected in the water surface, adding a layer of spatial sense to the frame for this red-haired twin tails cosplay.
This is the anime convention shooting style I personally prefer, blending the character's vitality into real urban life scenes. It's not just a simple studio shoot or close-up facing a wall, but genuinely letting loose freely in crowds and plazas. Even many passing convention friends would grab their phones to snap one or two pictures; the atmosphere of an anime convention is truly highly contagious.
The camera's high ISO and dynamic range also performed very well in this high-contrast environment, and cooperating with multi-angle snapshots, pure hand-holding encountered no blurred photo issues. Alright, that's all for the records of these BW Convention Photos.
