Shooting this Showa everyday look of Iori Fuyusaka from 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim took place in a retro classroom full of vintage charm. I've always felt this character embodies both the lazy ease of an ordinary girl and a certain mysterious detachment; setting the scene in a Showa-style classroom with aged wooden desks and chairs created an atmosphere that perfectly matches her character's foundation.
For the outfit, I chose a classic light-toned sailor uniform with black trims on the cuffs and collar, tied with a bright blue bow at the neckline—visually balancing the sharp neatness of a school uniform with a touch of softness. The top features a cropped cut paired with a black high-waisted pleated skirt and black over-the-knee socks, giving the overall silhouette a very clean shape. The blonde, slightly wavy wig was styled with straight bangs, and the small white flower hair accessory on the side served as the finishing touch, making the entire makeup look cleaner and fresher.
The set layout on location was rich with narrative depth. The first set of shots features me resting my head on the school desk, where the vintage radio and wooden cabinet scattered with books in the background stood out wonderfully. Natural warm afternoon sunlight streamed through the window, casting a fuzzy rim light on the side of my face and hair strands, while the half-open-eyed, lazy state perfectly captured the character's dazed, ready-to-doze-off demeanor.
The second shot is a full-body freeze-frame that I personally adore. The gesture of stretching both arms upward lengthened the body lines, not only displaying the silhouette of the cropped sailor top but also making the posture look completely relaxed. The Black sheer thigh-highs cosplay elements with black thigh-high socks and the black pleated skirt created wonderful visual depth under the soft warm light, which, combined with this casual pose, perfectly captured the character's unpretentious Everyday feel.
The highlight was the chalkboard scene, where the prop master wrote keywords in chalk beforehand: "Tomomi Kisaragi", "Underground UFO", "Year 2089", and "△ Think". Standing before the blackboard, resting a chin on one hand in thought alongside those slightly absurd yet suspense-filled words, the photo instantly gained dramatic story tension. That's the most fascinating part of cosplay—not merely wearing an outfit, but using expressions and props to recreate a slice of her mental world.
The location shoot moved to a grey, aged hallway with mottled walls and dim lighting. Raising my hand to shield the light while gazing diagonally upward evoked an overall mood that felt much cooler and moodier compared to the classroom's warm tones, enriching the hidden melancholy and backstory of the character. This set didn't rely on exaggerated soft focus or harsh lighting, but rather captured the environment's most raw, natural texture; the slightly grainy light and shadow resonated closely with the imaging of Showa-era film cameras.
For makeup, to suit a high school student, blush was kept very light, and lip color was kept in a natural, light tone, which, along with blue contacts, made facial features look clearer and gave them 2D-proportioned delicacy. The wig was also trimmed and styled according to head shape prior to shooting to ensure clear sightlines while retaining volume. Communication with photographer Kamizuru Ginga was seamless on set; he captured the Everyday feel I requested with precision, requiring barely any stiff posing and focusing instead on snapping organic moments during natural movement. Throughout the shoot, though the setting was simple, capturing the subtle aura between an ordinary girl and fateful destiny indeed required deep appreciation of the original work.
