For this outdoor location, we chose an expansive open-air balcony, and we waited quite a while for the right wind conditions to capture this night view. This Phantom Thief Kid outfit places strict demands on silhouette and tailoring—especially the white suit, where even the slightest misfit can look bulky. For the blue shirt underneath, I deliberately picked a crisp, structured fabric to keep the collar sharp and upright. The pink tie also took quite some time to track down in the most accurate shade; even though it's just a photoshoot, I wanted to stay as faithful as possible to these nuances.
The biggest headache was honestly the silk top hat. To avoid throwing off the overall proportions, both the inner circumference and height were customized and adjusted, and wearing it for extended periods truly gave me a headache. On top of that, top hats catch outdoor wind so easily; during the shoot, I constantly had to angle away from strong gusts to keep it from getting blown right off. The round monocle posed a similar challenge: if the cord was even slightly too long, it pulled awkwardly across my face, but if it was too short, it looked stiff. Ultimately, fine-tuning the thin cord's placement helped capture that subtle, enigmatic half-smile.
That shot of flicking the cape was attempted no fewer than twenty times. To ensure the cape spread gracefully, invisible boning strips were sewn inside, yet it couldn't be completely rigid—it had to flow dynamically with the flick of my arm. Controlling the lighting contrast in a night shoot is exceptionally tricky: against the shimmering urban backdrop, over-illuminating the front makes the subject look flat and cardboard-like. So we set up a dual-light system with softboxes and added a cool-toned rim light from the side, giving the white suit tactile volume in the dark and yielding natural specular highlights across the folds of the cape.
The close-up holding the playing card was captured after numerous candid takes to look organic. The card was customized with a specialized finish carrying a faint metallic sheen; gripping it in gloved hands required looking completely effortless without letting it slip. Braving the cold wind all night on this open-air balcony was exhausting, but seeing that mysterious yet effortlessly confident magician aura come alive in the final photos made it completely worthwhile. Cosplaying sharply tailored suit characters always poses a major challenge to posture—the slightest slouch destroys that commanding presence. To stand tall and straight, my shoulders were locked in constant tension, to the point where my entire back felt numb afterward. Consider it a small price to pay for being a magician; I truly hope these frames frozen beneath the night sky let everyone feel the enigmatic allure of the phantom thief.
