For this session, I explored a concept fusing modern athletic motifs with Eastern mysticism—the Demon Hunter (Demon Hunter) persona featured in this post. The core of this series lies in contrast: pairing the universally recognizable sailor uniform and badminton racket with traditional red-threaded ancient coins. Regarding makeup, to complement the high saturation of the solid orange backdrop, I consulted with makeup artist @Jingjing's Beauty Picks to keep the base flawless and translucent, applying strategic highlights along the nasal bridge and cheekbones to sharpen facial dimension. For hair styling, heartfelt thanks to wig stylist @Renao Haide Kang Dapao for sculpting the wig—the blunt straight bangs were trimmed with organic softness, ensuring the strands retained crisp, lively separation under studio fans without looking stiff.
During shooting, photographer @kali developed an ingenious visual architecture. Instead of settling for conventional eye-level angles, he adopted a slightly high-angle diagonal composition, tilting the subject's axis to shatter compositional monotony. The standout element was unquestionably the black badminton racket in the foreground; using a shallow depth of field, the racket was rendered into soft bokeh, leaving only the ghosted grid of strings as a natural framing device that locks visual attention squarely onto the face. This interplay of sharp focus and blurred foreground layers elevates the subject dramatically in studio photography.
The pure orange background was the primary focal point of post-processing color grading; controlling such an expansive plane of high-saturation solid color is notoriously difficult, yet this exact hue made fair skin tones and the monochrome sailor suit pop with intense visual impact. Under the Demon Hunter (Demon Hunter) concept, despite wearing modern attire, posing references had to remain purposeful. Rather than using a standard sports grip on the racket, I bent my wrist subtly and rested my fingers lightly along the handle, pairing this with an upward, aloof gaze to evoke an alert stillness primed to strike at any instant. Red-cord copper coins suspended near the top of the frame injected traditional fantasy intrigue, sparking a fascinating aesthetic chemistry against the modern sports elements.
From pre-production to the final shutter click, the creative team worked with seamless synergy.
