[Su Mucheng cosplay] The King's Avatar Hubin 88 Pop-up: Freezing the Launcher's Composed Moment on an Esports Chair

It has been a few days since The King's Avatar pop-up event at Hangzhou Hubin 88 passed. Looking through the archived photos from back then, I can still feel the passionate esports atmosphere on-site. This time I cosplayed Su Mucheng. Although it was a past pop-up event, sorting out and posting these photos now serves as a complete review of my cosplay performance this time.

In terms of costume selection and pairing, I precisely recreated the character's iconic black-white-red-gold colored team jersey from her time in Excellent Era and related teams. The tailoring of the jacket is very structured, and the team badge on the chest is the absolute soul; the moment I put it on, I instantly got the illusion of blending into a live esports tournament. To prevent the lower half from looking bloated, I chose a pleated skirt paired with black over-knee socks and platform Mary Janes. This combination not only goes perfectly with the overall styling of the team uniform but is also visually very slimming. Especially the black over-knee socks—their effect in elongating the leg lines has always been fantastic, nicely showcasing the character's capable yet slightly cute and playful temperament in both standing and sitting poses. I specially styled the wig to restore her look, making the bangs on the forehead and the braided details on the sides get as close as possible to the gentle "Launcher" image in the original work.

The scene layout at the venue was exceptionally thoughtful, completely replicating the texture of an esports team's backstage or training room. When taking behind-the-scenes photos, I particularly loved the set of photos where I sat on the white esports chair. That orange fox plushie was a great accompanying prop; holding it in my arms made the atmosphere of the entire frame feel very cozy and soft-cute. The three golden trophies behind me were dazzling, and even the computer monitors featured customized team-themed graphics. It felt as though if I just gripped the mouse and tapped the keyboard, I could immediately dive into an intense showdown. The layout of the display boards also possessed high visual impact—the black-and-white manga-style character illustrations paired with vivid red and blue backgrounds, along with the words "PERSONAL GLORY PROFILE," fully amped up the glory and fighting spirit of esports players.

As a coser who frequently participates in offline conventions and pop-up events, I've always felt that ambient light sources and prop pairings are critical to the quality of the final photos. Although the lighting at the pop-up site was relatively complex with map reflections from various display boards, the photographer this time was highly effective in framing and color grading, preserving skin textures without over-smoothing. Everyone can see the effect of wearing black stockings paired with platform shoes, which not only enriches the layering of the entire outfit but also visually blends perfectly with the clean, swift aesthetic pursued by esports-themed cosplay.

The King's Avatar as an IP carries many people's dreams and passion for electronic sports. Being able to stand in such a meticulously laid-out scene as Su Mucheng and feel the world filled with hot blood, victories, and losses through her eyes is a very meaningful thing in itself. As a role player, one must not only restore the character's outward appearance but also try their best to convey her composed and confident traits through expressions and body language. While sorting through the photos, looking at those moments sitting in front of the computer or leaning on the sofa, I felt quite immersed myself.

The display layout and materials for this pop-up were truly crafted with a great sense of detail, ranging from the depiction of the character's expressions on the exhibition boards to the giant Corgi plushie and grey little fish toy placed on-site, and even the color scheme of the esports chair perfectly unifying with the team style. Good offline activities always provide cosers with an excellent space for secondary creation, allowing us not just to stand there wearing costumes but to feel as if we have truly walked into that fictional esports world.

After returning from shooting this set of photos, I kept thinking about how to convey that passion felt on-site through the photographs. Therefore, I spent a bit of time selecting and color grading, and finally chose these few photos with different perspectives and lighting as archives. They contain both the commemorative check-in photos in front of the exhibition boards and the lazy moments sitting on the esports chair, hoping to comprehensively showcase the results of this cosplay effort. It's great to share these offline anime convention photos with everyone.
