I have truly been looking forward to this star-themed cosplay styling for a long time. For this zoo photoshoot event, the inspiration behind the entire shoot was actually quite simple: I just wanted to create something as soft and tender as a dream. The white lace nightcap on my head was found only after searching through multiple shops—the gentle ruffle folds were just right without feeling overly exaggerated. Paired with that black-and-white star-patterned camisole dress, it creates the exact sensation of daydreaming at home and accidentally tumbling into a cluster of stars.
For makeup, I took a fairly bold leap today. Normally, I don't like applying too many embellishments to my face, but to match the overall ethereal vibe, I applied numerous rhinestones and star sequins around my eyes and cheekbones. I selected cool-toned blue-violet and silver hues, which catch the studio lights with delicate, shimmering glints. The eye makeup was kept relatively subtle, primarily to let the facial appliqués remain the visual focal point. The foundation was kept matte, which gives the overall frame a much cleaner, refined texture. The blush was swept slightly higher than usual, evoking a tipsy flush or that rosy warmth of having just awakened.
In terms of styling, aside from the star dress, the absolute highlights were the white knit gloves on my hands and the white leg warmers on my feet. The pink stars on the gloves are three-dimensional and soft to the touch, infusing a touch of warm pink into the predominantly cool-toned frame. The white leg warmers on my legs were also chosen with star motifs, instantly pulling the entire aesthetic together once worn. During the shoot, I consistently favored sitting poses, as they beautifully displayed the silhouette of the complete outfit. The ukulele decorated with star stickers was actually an impromptu prop addition, but against the cotton cloud scene in the background, it evoked a fairy-tale charm of sitting atop clouds strumming music.
Among the props for this shoot, those massive holographic laser stars were exceptionally tricky to photograph. With so many reflective facets, even the slightest lighting angle misalignment would turn them into blurry glare spots. I spent a substantial amount of time fine-tuning my poses and the stars' placement. The photo looking down at the small star was actually a candid capture while adjusting angles; the light happened to strike obliquely from the side, cleanly outlining my eyelashes and the facial sequins with effortless natural beauty. Meanwhile, the shot lying across the cloud scene posed the greatest challenge: balancing steadily while holding the star at the precise angle to refract gorgeous iridescent rainbow sheen, all without letting it completely obscure my face.
The entire set was built using abundant cotton batting and white sheer drapes. To achieve that fluffy, dimensional feeling of a cloud scene, we had to continuously tear and tease the cotton by hand to sculpt its shape. The backdrop drapery was selected in a soft grayish-blue tint, allowing the white dress and white leg warmers to pop cleanly within the frame. During shooting, I opted for diffuse reflection lighting as much as possible, avoiding harsh direct beams because the stars' reflective surfaces would appear overly stark under hard light. With soft lighting cast over the scene, both skin texture and garment weaves looked wonderfully gentle and dreamy.
This creative exploration reminded me that striking, memorable visuals don't necessarily require intricate storylines or grand, complex backdrops. As long as simple elements harmonize properly and meticulous care is given to adjusting props and lighting, you can create truly evocative frames. I have a profound fondness for this whimsical, fantasy-tinged style; seeing the final images makes every bit of the hours-long effort and the sequins glued to my skin completely worthwhile.
