The location chosen for this shoot was nestled in a woodland flanked by mountains and streams, aiming primarily to evoke that serene, quiet joy found in nature. To harmonize with this organic and tranquil atmosphere, I selected this pale-cyan Wei-Jin style Hanfu (Wei-Jin style Hanfu) cross-collar ruqun. Attire from the Wei-Jin era celebrated wide sleeves and expansive sashes; the pale cyan of the outer robe paired with the pure white of the inner garments creates an exceptionally refined and understated palette. As the fabric flutters with the breeze, it casts a graceful, floating drape, perfect for cultivating the aloof, transcendent poise of ancient forest recluses.

For hair and makeup, I embraced a minimalist approach: a translucent, natural base with softly elongated eyebrow lines, deliberately avoiding heavy eyeshadow. The hair was styled into an elegant classical updo accented with a silver hairpin, leaving portions of the long locks to drape loosely down the back. This not only framed the face beautifully, but also added kinetic poetry to the frame whenever the wind swept through.

I brought three primary props for this session: a handcrafted paper umbrella, an embroidered round fan, and a thread-bound edition of The Classic of Tea. While holding the umbrella, to balance with its purplish-red canopy, I adjusted my grip so that the tassels along the ribs cascaded naturally, creating an artistic framing element before the camera. If you wish to capture a similar mood, try softening your focus toward the water or into the far distance rather than smiling directly at the lens; a gentle downward cast of the eyes or a three-quarter glance over the shoulder conveys far richer narrative depth. When holding the round fan or the thread-bound book, keep your fingers relaxed and rested lightly against the edges without clutching them tightly, honoring the languid, carefree composure characteristic of the Wei-Jin era.

Throughout the shoot, the sound of the wind rustling through the canopy felt incredibly soothing. When sitting on the large riverside boulders, be mindful to spread the skirt hem gracefully all around you; this conceals any awkward leg bending and makes you appear seamlessly painted into the lush green landscape. I hope this share offers helpful inspiration for friends who love Hanfu and classical-style photography. I look forward to sharing different aesthetic concepts with everyone next time.
