The concept for this photoshoot was conceived in my mind for a long time. The core idea was to break the conventional spatial limits of shooting by setting the scene in a bathroom. Regarding the ghost under this theme of under the night sky, I didn't opt for a traditional eerie or horrifying approach, but rather wanted to endow this youth with a quiet, fragile, and somewhat sacred quality.
In styling, I prepared two outfits—one black and one white—for contrast. The black set is paired with a lace V-neck and a black veil, matched with purple contact lenses and deliberately deepened eye makeup, with reddish smudges beneath the eyes to emphasize a slightly sickly, delicate aura. To enrich the layers of the frame, I wore multiple strands of pearl necklaces and rings on my fingers, which, along with the water droplets sprayed on the glass partition, created a mysterious sense of eye contact through the screen. The white set offers an entirely opposite texture: a slightly damp white shirt clinging to the body, paired with a white lace veil and long pearl strands, delivering a soft feel of pure, flawless white. To echo the theme, I also prepared a bouquet of white fresh flowers.
The actual shooting process was a bit tougher than imagined. In a bathroom filled with steam and mist, focusing and light transmission through glass beaded with water droplets was a major challenge. For Photo 1, I needed to press my palm firmly against the glass while leaning forward, ensuring my gaze could pierce through the glass to communicate with the lens. Because of the water on the glass, any careless move could disrupt the droplet distribution, so every breath required rhythmic control. The bathtub shoot in Photo 2 depleted physical stamina even more; semi-submerged in water, the difference between water temperature and room temperature easily made me shiver. To present a calm and relaxed state before the lens, I had to continually regulate my breathing, relax my leg muscles, and steadily offer the pearls and bouquet toward the camera with both hands. The moment the pearl strands dipped into the water to create faint ripples was my favorite visual detail.
The lace-trimmed white veil became somewhat heavy once soaked in water, but its draped contour clinging to my shoulders and hair strands happened to enhance the ghost's ethereal, semi-tangible presence. The purple pupils looked exceptionally translucent amidst the interplay of cool-toned mist and warm-toned lighting. A huge thank-you to @奇妙碳水炒面面包 and @妄离 for their hard work, treading through water, arranging lights, and adjusting angles in such an extremely cramped bathroom space to ensure every frame maintained strong visual tension without losing the character's soul. Creating at the very edges of light, shadow, and emotion like this is truly captivating.
