Sharing the fitting results for Shiina Mahiru from The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten this time. Two different coordination plans along with special effect graphics present two distinct visual experiences.
The first photo was ultimately selected as the cover, utilizing black tights combined with the glowing angel halo effect and dual-wing special effects. The deep navy blue blazer jacket features a structured silhouette, accented with golden buttons and paired with a wine-red bowtie, making it a highly standard Japanese JK uniform cosplay configuration. Wearing the top to fit nicely without being tight, leaving appropriate room through the cuffs and collar, makes the outline appear more natural. The pleated skirt outfit below features a brown-toned plaid pattern, forming a soft color transition with the golden-orange long hair.
For the makeup and styling this time, I selected an anime-style cartoon mask for post-processing composition to highly restore the character's recognizability from the original anime. Although this effect demands high physical coordination during the shoot, it looks incredibly fitting for the work itself once the post-processing unifies the atmosphere. The skirt opens up in a fan shape when kneeling, and the black tights paired with black block heels with excellent reflective texture make the leg lines look slender while retaining a touch of daily life style. The halo at the top of the head and the angel wing effects behind add a divine yet lively vibe, fitting the "little angel" theme perfectly.
For the lighting layout during the shoot, I adopted a relatively hard main light source, casting down from a slightly elevated frontal angle. As seen from the shadows on the wall, the light is quite focused, which better outlines the silhouette of the JK jacket and the edge texture of the wig. The use of a plush carpet adds softness to the frame, neutralizing the sharpness brought by the bright light and making the overall composition more layered. In the experiment for the second photo, I swapped in white tights and removed the special effects, creating a purer everyday version closer to a regular daily look. The white base layer acts as a subtle diffuse reflection under the light, making the entire frame look fresher and fairer. The two photos correspond to two expressions: the "highlighted state with angel elements" and the "quiet daily state."
During this fitting session, I noticed that the sleeve length of the uniform jacket and the alignment of the pleated skirt outfit's plaid pattern are the keys to determining the texture of the photos. During the shoot, the position of the skirt hem was specially adjusted to visually keep the horizontal and vertical lines of the plaid neat, avoiding cluttered visual interference caused by folds. The hand movements were also meticulously designed: in the first photo, one hand gently tugs the edge of the skirt hem while the other hand is slightly raised close to the face, conveying an introverted sense of tenderness in coordination with facial emotions; in the second photo, both hands gently touch the bowtie on the chest, leaning toward a more formal or slightly restrained standing posture.
In terms of choosing the silhouette, this type of everyday JK uniform cosplay is more loosely fitted at the shoulders and waist compared to formal suits. Therefore, during the shoot, I hid the accumulation of excess fabric through kneeling postures and arm movements to make the waistline pop out. Actually, the classic charm of this kind of JK uniform lies in using the tailoring of the uniform itself to highlight the character's temperament, without needing to add too many complex, large props. Paired with this long straight hairstyle, the overall atmosphere is already completely sufficient.
As a fitting record, the results of these two different configurations have already captured the effect I wanted. The white and black tights versions each have their own characteristics; one is closer to the pure feeling of an amateur's daily life, while the other enriches the character's fantasy traits after adding special effects. For a neighbor-style character like Shiina Mahiru who is inherently very gentle, over-the-top expression techniques are unnecessary—using a clean background, detailed clothing, and appropriate light and shadow can beautifully convey the character's approachability. If there are opportunities in the future, I feel I can also attempt more diverse background props, such as books or tea sets, to further enrich the setting definition of this work.
