As a coser of Shiina Mahiru from The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten, I completed this set of final photoshoots in the Chongqing Ginkgo forest this time. The light and shadow of late autumn come with a natural soft-focus filter, which, combined with this navy blue high school girl uniform, perfectly fits Mahiru's aura of seeming cool yet carrying a hint of warmth. The weather was great on the shooting day. The sunlight pierced through the tall ginkgo canopy, dyeing the entire scene in a warm amber hue, which is exactly why I chose to set the shooting location here.

For the costume, I chose a classic autumn/winter style high school girl uniform. The navy blue blazer, paired with a white shirt and a deep red bow tie, is the core of the school vibe. The brown plaid pleated skirt on the lower body, paired with black stockings and loafers, beautifully elongates the leg lines. I prepared a black leather shoulder bag and a clear umbrella on and beside me, respectively. The clear umbrella is not just to shape the character's temperament; compositionally, the plastic texture of the canopy and handle creates a wonderful material contrast with the natural withered yellow of autumn. This kind of prop usage adds layers to the image in cosplay photography.

For the makeup, I needed to match the character's traits. The long, straight flaxen hair with straight bangs is one of the character's signature features. Combing the wig took some time to make it look natural without covering the facial features. The makeup was mainly natural and translucent, amplifying the details around the eyes to complement the character's gentle gaze. In this process, ensuring a high unity in style among the wig, accessories, and the high school girl uniform is the key to elevating the quality of the cosplay work.

The location this time was a park trail with low foot traffic in Chongqing, which is very suitable for an outdoor set. The lens used a large aperture, beautifully blurring the background ginkgo forest to form a gorgeous bokeh. During the shoot, the photographer used many techniques combining low angles with front-lighting and back-lighting. For instance, the photo where I'm sitting on the curb utilizes the curb and cobblestones as foreground lines to guide the vision. In another photo holding the clear umbrella, the back-lighting gives the umbrella ribs a clear silhouette of light and shadow, while also lending a golden texture to the edges of the hair strands. This lighting technique is very practical in outdoor cosplay photography.

When posing, I didn't choose particularly extravagant postures, preferring a high school girl stance that aligns with a daily life feel. Whether it's naturally looking back while holding the bag with one hand, quietly looking at the camera while holding the umbrella, or squatting by the roadside lightly touching my jaw with a finger, I hoped to convey the delicacy in Mahiru's personality. The sitting pose, combined with the black leather bag beside me, creates a lazy feeling of pausing under the ginkgo tree after school. Such candid snapshots are often more infectious than deliberate posing.

There were actually many interesting details during the shoot. For example, the light changes very quickly in the evening, so we needed to catch the softest wave of sunlight within the limited illumination time. When a gust of wind blew by, ginkgo leaves fell one after another, landing on my shoulders and on the clear umbrella. I think this is the most charming part of outdoor shooting; it cannot be fully predicted, but every natural encounter becomes a bonus in the frame. As a coser who has shot many works in the community, I have always believed that the atmosphere brought by a character is actually conveyed through such delicate environments and emotional expressions. It doesn't need gorgeous rhetoric; standing there quietly, complementing the naturally unfolding scenery, is the best interpretation.

The scenery of late autumn is indeed fleeting. Being able to record my understanding and expression of the character through the lens in such weather makes this set of final photos feel like more than just character restoration to me—it feels like a stroll promised with autumn. Without too much embellishment, I'm just sharing the authentic images, hoping that this peaceful time about ginkgos and the angel next door can be preserved a bit longer through anime-style photography.
