[Amano Ichigo Cosplay] A Pastry Chef Trial Card in Yumeiro Patissiere

Turning the anime I chased in front of the TV when I was a child into this set of photos with a serious attitude. Before preparing for this classic anime cosplay, I re-watched the original work to capture Amano Ichigo's trait of being passionate about desserts, occasionally a bit clumsy, but with eyes that shine exceptionally bright.

First, regarding the treatment of the wig, I chose deep brown large curly twin-tails with straight bangs. To fit the fluffiness of shoujo manga, the internal steel skeleton of the wig needed its curvature readjusted to ensure the curls on both sides look relatively symmetrical from the front, while also elevating the hair at the crown of the head to support the high chef hat. For the matching chef uniform, I specially sourced coarse-count cotton fabric to make it, aiming to restore that crisp white texture in the animation without neglecting the details of the red neckerchief and triangular scarf around the waist. To make the red bowknot at the waist look more vivid, I wrapped it one more time when tying, intentionally pressing out creases.

In terms of makeup, to restore her translucent skin tone and sparkling big eyes, a lighter and more moisturizing liquid foundation was chosen for the base makeup, paired with a natural cinnamon-colored blush spread over the center of the face, weakening the shadow of the cheekbones. The eyeliner is relatively soft without intentionally elongating the outer corners of the eyes, focusing instead on well-defined eyelashes and light brown pupils, so the overall gaze carries more of that clear and innocent naivety from the original work. The lipstick selected a water-gloss texture tomato color, which doesn't look too mature but instead adds to the girl's vitality.

The most important prop in this set of works is actually that plate of Strawberry Cake. Rather than using plastic replicas, I preferred to present real texture. Therefore, before the shoot, I communicated with a bakery to specially customize a chiffon cake piled high with fresh whipped cream and fresh strawberries on top, finally dusted with moisture-proof powdered sugar to add layers. To maintain the cake's freshness during the shooting process, a low-temperature box was specially prepared on-site for refrigeration at any time to prevent the cream from melting and deforming under strong lights. For the paper plate at the bottom, I also specifically went to find a lace paper mat with a red heart polka dot pattern; such small details can make the frame's atmosphere closer to the sweetness of the original work's posters.

During the shoot, I communicated with the photographer about the tone of the entire photoset and decided to use a single-sided strong light to simulate the direct reflection effect of natural light. This leaves sharp contours of shadows on the white wall, which can strengthen the flat feel of the frame and visually bring it closer to the 2D original art feeling. In terms of action guidance, I mainly designed movements like handing out the cake with both hands, tasting a strawberry with a side profile, and smiling with one hand propping up my chin. The action of lifting the cake needs to take into account the wrist's supporting strength because a real cake carries quite a bit of weight; one must both maintain elegance when presenting the dessert and display the character's confidence.

The focus of post-processing photo retouching lies in color noise reduction and highlight brightening. The white of the chef uniform and the white layers of the fresh cream need to be distinguished, and the details of the fluff and luster on the strawberry surface also need to be preserved. The overall color temperature leans toward cold white, avoiding the yellowed cafeteria lighting look, so that the frame always maintains a clean brightness belonging to a dessert shop.

Actually, from childhood to adulthood, I have indeed always harbored a longing to run a cake shop. Although I haven't taken that crucial step in reality yet, through this cosplay, putting on this outfit in advance and holding my favorite dessert in my own hands is also a kind of comfort to my childhood fantasies. I feel that the joy of doing this classic anime cosplay of an old series lies not in pursuing how cool the weapons are or how complex the armor is, but in transmitting a pure emotion. Materializing a classic shoujo manga cosplay character into reality—the luster of the fabric and the aroma of the cake are all keys to unlocking 2D memories. This set of photos is both a commemoration of the character Amano Ichigo and a footnote to that past time spent watching anime.
