Preparing and shooting this photo set of Herrscher of Finality from Honkai Impact 3rd took nearly a month, and taking advantage of the 8th anniversary milestone, I finally organized all these materials. The costume details are exceptionally intricate: from the ruffled chest details and blue-purple skirt color scheme to the fishnet Stockings and straps on the legs, putting it on and taking it off required two assistants to avoid messing up the outfit. The lightweight design of the silver crown was well-executed, placing little strain on my neck during the shoot, but the long hair in the back paired with the voluminous skirt required immense caution when walking around.
This shoot was split into two parts: outdoor night scenes and daytime studio sessions for Anime-style photography. Photo 1 and the waterside night scenes were captured with a wide aperture, where blue-and-yellow bokeh in the background combined with sparks from sparklers to create a romantic ambiance. The breeze by the water was strong, and sparks splashed on me several times while lighting sparklers, but to capture a perfect shower of golden sparks, we tested over a dozen takes before achieving satisfaction. Photo 2 was shot before a white backdrop using high-key lighting. This posture genuinely tested core strength: while seated, the legs had to present a naturally elongated line with the body leaning slightly backward, allowing the white fishnet Stockings to reveal distinct tactile texture under the lights.
Photo 4 is my favorite among these: the low-angle perspective with the gun barrel pointed toward the lens elongates the leg lines and complements the off-shoulder design. During retouching, the glowing red point at the gun tail was aligned with the eye highlights to sharpen the visual focus. To flatter the curves of the chest and waist, front-side lighting was mainly used, lending the structured garment fabric richer depth within the shadows. Photo 3 features backlit night scenery where strong overhead lighting created distinct flare, requiring high ISO performance from the camera; the facial fill light was kept extremely subtle, perfectly matching that cool, aloof, and mildly dangerous aura.
Photo 5 incorporated firework special effects, which was actually shot during the day holding sparklers in a windless environment, with rising spark trails composited in post-production. White dresses against dark backgrounds easily overexpose, so during post-processing, ambient brightness was intentionally lowered while preserving the character's highlights.
Having loved Honkai Impact 3rd for seven years, watching the main storyline arrive at this point evokes complex emotions. Portraying Herrscher of Finality in this Kiana cosplay was meant to offer a meaningful milestone for my journey as a Captain and create a tangible keepsake for these seven years of companionship. From a fresh college graduate back then to working for several years now, I have witnessed the step-by-step growth of the Valkyries. The predominantly white palette accented by blue and purple was preserved authentically during post-processing, avoiding excessive skin smoothing to retain natural skin texture. Outdoor winter night shooting was freezing cold, leaving hands stiff, but seeing the finished photos made everything worthwhile. I am thrilled to fulfill this wish on the 8th anniversary, deeply grateful to the official team for running the game all these years, and look forward to attending another offline carnival in the future to connect face-to-face with fellow Captains.
