This Chabaidao collaboration Yao Guang cosplay post has a lot to share, from the details of the costume and accessories to the on-site shooting.
When I headed to the store, there was no collaboration merchandise left; only a small stack of Jing Yuan collaboration cups was piled up at the counter. After learning that I had specifically come to take Casual cosplay photos, the staff very thoughtfully gave me a cleaned cup to use as a shooting prop. Even without the cup sleeve, holding this white cup while framing shots in the shop looked very natural.
Because I wanted to finish shooting as soon as possible before the May Day holiday, this Yao Guang cosplay outfit from Manjiong actually arrived quite in a rush. Let's talk about the advantages first: the skirt fabric is genuinely thick, the material is very solid, and it has an excellent drape. The large area of white doesn't have a cheap translucent feel, giving it a real sense of weight both in person and on camera. The blue off-the-shoulder top is a sheer tulle patchwork design with bright colors and nice details. However, this top has an extremely obvious flaw: the buckle positions for the clear shoulder straps don't seem to match the costume's pattern, and the sizes don't match either. It couldn't buckle up at all when wearing it, making the off-the-shoulder shape slip down easily, requiring frequent adjustments. Additionally, the outfit doesn't come with built-in chest pads, so if you want to shoot good results, it's recommended to bring your own well-fitting silicone nipple covers.
The silver metallic-textured necklace around the neck looks very grand; the pendant has weight but doesn't pinch the neck, and it flatters the skin tone beautifully when paired with the blue top. Unfortunately, the tail feathers, a key hair accessory for this outfit, hadn't been shipped the day before the holiday, resulting in this shoot having to proceed with a featherless headpiece status. The pearl accessories were also still on their way for a replacement shipment. It could be said that this final photo record was actually an "incomplete accessories" situation.
The wig is also from Manjiong, and the blue-and-white gradient effect is fantastic, with hair strands thick enough. However, the front bangs were left too long. I originally wanted to trim them myself to restore the look, but my hand slipped and I cut too much off, directly removing the blue gradient color at the front tip of the bangs. As a result, the bangs are now purely white, missing the original gradient layers. This is a regret caused by my own clumsy hands; the wig's color and texture themselves are quite good.
The indoor top lighting on the day of the shoot was quite harsh, and the large areas of the white skirt hem and transparent high heels were highly prone to overexposure. The photographer @纷裂 controlled the light exceptionally well. The post-processing didn't overly stretch the highlights, beautifully preserving the layers of the skin tone and the white dress. Even though the gear wasn't fully complete, the captured photos have a comfortable visual texture. I tried both standing and sitting poses in the shop, utilizing the high slit on the leg and the black thigh ring to fill up the simplicity of the composition.
Although we encountered quite a few sudden situations with the gear this time—with the headpiece and pearls missing, and the bangs trimmed short—the shooting results made me satisfied. The solid foundation of the costume recreated the character's blue-and-white main color scheme wonderfully. I hope to have another chance to complete a full Anime-style outdoor photoshoot version after the tail feathers are fully supplemented later.
