This set of Phanuel cosplay photos features incredible garment details, and from the moment I received the costume, I spent a lot of time studying how to wear and arrange it for the most faithful look. Styled in a pink-and-white Lolita aesthetic, elements like the red heart-shaped cutout at the neckline and the embroidery across the chest required painstaking adjustment. The puff sleeves are quite voluminous; to keep them looking fluffy and structured on camera, plenty of stiff support materials were inserted inside. The lace arm sleeves with crisscross ribbons are a standout accent, and together with the pearl waist chains and cascading tiered pleated skirt, the outfit achieves rich depth and movement that looks gorgeous with every step.

Speaking of hair and makeup, Phanuel's blonde hair was a major challenge. To convey that crystalline translucence unique to anime aesthetics, the wig was heavily layered and shaped, while the transparent headband and white bows on both sides were reinforced so they wouldn't shift during wide movements. For eye makeup, soft pink tones were paired with amber contact lenses, layering multiple falsies and eyeliner so the gaze retained its depth even under intense lighting. A heavier sweep of blush was applied to cultivate a dreamy, flushed aura.

The shoot took place in an indoor studio in Nanjing, decorated with lush pink florals and European architectural elements. The white harp was genuinely heavy; to look like I was playing it naturally, I sat there practicing my hand gestures and posture for a long time. The lighting was the most thrilling aspect of this shoot: the photographer made great use of strong backlighting and diffusion filters, making every strand of hair glow and enveloping the subject in a dreamlike haze. Because of the high dynamic range, a reflector was needed to keep my face well-lit without casting awkward reflections, meaning every flawless frame was the result of continuous coordination between the photographer and me.

The second look incorporated massive butterfly wings. Made of a translucent material embedded with LED light strips, they cast a soft, ethereal glow into the setting. Moving around with them on was quite cumbersome—kneeling atop champagne satin while keeping my back perfectly straight was a true test of core stamina. The lace and ruffles of the skirt spread out across the satin with rich layering, but the slightest shift could press against the wing frame, so every movement had to be micro-controlled to ensure visual perfection in every corner.

As a player of Path to Nowhere, Phanuel has always struck me as both enigmatic and delicate. When performing, I tried to keep my gaze somewhat elusive and distant, leaning into languid and tranquil poses to match her character demeanor. We experimented with many new lighting techniques for this shoot, and I hope it brings everyone a refreshingly beautiful visual experience.
