The light and atmosphere on the day of the convention were perfect for shooting. This time I participated in the Firefly ACG Expo, cosplaying Ignis from Path to Nowhere. While walking around the convention site, many passersby asked about the character, making the live interaction exceptionally strong. Today, I am mainly sharing a set of convention photos. Since the photographer was also myself, the upfront communication was extremely smooth, capturing many vivid and natural moments.
Let's talk about Ignis's costume design first. The red part at the chest features flying swallow and floral patterns, paired with a faint dark floral texture on the main black skirt hemline, making the overall look highly layered. The golden hollowed-out necklace below the neckline and two massive black hollowed-out metallic bells around the waist can be considered the visual centerpiece of this outfit. The white and red tassels dangling down swing along with body movements, delivering great dynamic effects. The bottom of the skirt hem is serrated and embroidered with golden flame patterns, which, combined with the high-contrast black and red color scheme against the inner white ruffled short skirt, instantly maxes out the Chinese fantasy vibe.
The wig selected is a vibrant red, styled into twin tails, with one side intentionally braided into a long plait so that both front and back angles carry clear recognition. There are many decorations on the side of the head: a combination of black horn-shaped hair accessories, silver tassels, and white flowers, plus a black star-shaped hair clip pinned by the bangs, offering incredibly rich details. For the makeup, I chose a style that emphasizes the depth of the eyes, which, combined with polarized highlighter, makes the makeup look highly three-dimensional under the natural light environment outside the exhibition hall.
During the shoot, we fully utilized the props at hand. This circular round fan with flying swallow patterns and white petals is truly great for photos. Poses like lifting one leg while standing, pulling up the skirt hemline, and making a single-handed salute completely showcase Ignis's playful and confident side. Since these were live snapshots without complex lighting equipment, we relied more on the large-space scattered light in the venue, paired with a large-aperture lens to blur out the display stands and passersby in the background. This both preserved the lively atmosphere of the anime convention and highlighted the character subject with high clarity.
Looking back at the finished photos, a few actions like looking back or the wind blowing the sleeves felt especially amazing, and the overall red, black, and white color scheme is highly skin-brightening and eye-catching on camera. The preparation and shooting process for these convention photos went very smoothly. Being able to blend my own understanding into the role-play and present the character's rightful vitality is a highly joyful experience as a casual cosplay record.
