I finally received some of the convention photos from the Lianyungang DA Anime Expo today and couldn't wait to share this Luna Love of My Life cosplay with everyone. The visual punch of this outfit is genuinely striking; the red-and-gold color palette caught the venue's lights with dazzling brilliance. To recreate this look faithfully, I dedicated extensive effort to the garment's fine details. As you can see, the golden embroidery across the bodice and cuffs features rich three-dimensional texture rather than cheap flat prints, giving it tremendous presence and tactile depth when worn.
Special mention must go to the ornate headdress, which serves as the soul of the entire look. The golden structural frame, accented with horn-like curves flanking both sides and topped with oversized crimson pom-poms, undeniably put quite a bit of strain on my neck, yet it elevated the overall visual proportions wonderfully. The centerpiece bead right at the center refracted light with a gorgeous sheen, looking exceptionally photogenic in close-ups. Securing this massive crown required numerous bobby pins—an inevitable ordeal whenever cosplaying characters with grand headdresses.
The garment features a modernized silhouette: a mandarin standing collar paired with cutouts at the shoulders and waist retains traditional Chinese aesthetic elegance while adding crisp, sharp lines. Because the waist is open, I had to stay constantly mindful of my posture and keep my core engaged at the convention, but the flattering silhouette made it completely worthwhile. The skirt design is layered with care: an asymmetrical red outer dress layered over abundant pinkish-white sheer tulle that creates effortless flowing motion with every step. The high slit along the skirt also facilitated easy movement across the crowded expo hall while visually elongating my leg lines.
On the prop side, I prepared a sword and red silk ribbon. The prop sword was adorned with delicate pink floral ornaments; combined with the draped pink tulle trailing down, holding it instantly boosted my commanding aura. The shot with the red silk ribbon was a candid capture by the on-site photographer—scrunching the red fabric into the shape of a large festive bloom, paired with the grand headdress viewed from behind, truly evoked the grand romantic ambiance of an auspicious wedding celebration. Moving around the convention hall in these wide, sweeping sleeves posed minor challenges; I had to handle items with extreme care for fear of soiling the gold-trimmed cuffs. Yet seeing the stunning shots on the photographer's camera display made those minor inconveniences fade away completely. The substantial thickness of the fabric proved remarkably resilient in packed convention crowds, resisting creases while maintaining a crisp, heavy drape.
Many subtle nuances actually became apparent only during initial fittings. For instance, the stiff golden trim around the collar held the neckline upright with clean definition; the golden openwork motif at the waist, which I initially feared might look jarring, turned out to be a brilliant cinching element that broke down full-body proportions far more flatteringly. The inner sheer tulle swayed softly in sync with each stride, offering much more breathing room before the camera than plain solid textiles.
The glass curtain wall backdrop at the venue was an enormous help: its cool-toned grid geometry formed a sharp contrast against the red attire, carving out the silhouette with crystal clarity. When preparing large expanses of solid-colored costumes, scouting cool-toned backgrounds with strong structural lines can yield remarkably sophisticated photographic texture. The hilt of the prop sword was intricately finished, where the soft pink blossom and trailing tulle tempered the aggressive intensity of the red garments with gentle grace. Posing casually while holding the sword and looking directly into the lens naturally brought out that aloof, aristocratic pride without needing forced facial expressions. Overall, the experience at Lianyungang DA Anime Expo was wonderful—the venue was spacious with abundant lighting to support this heavy, elaborate look. In complex convention lighting where red fabric easily absorbs exposure, balanced on-site illumination combined with thoughtful color grading brought the vision to life. For me, preparing each cosplay is a zero-to-one creative journey; from studying character nuances to crafting every single accessory, every step strives to bring that cherished image in my heart into reality.
