[March 7th cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail — Dual-Sided Records of the Black Umbrella and Cyan Camera

For this March 7th cosplay shoot, I tried two completely different approaches in styling and emotional expression—one cool and one warm—creating an interesting contrast. After completing the character's base costume and makeup, I decided to switch up props and moods to highlight more facets that this character could potentially display.

For the first set of looks, I changed into a jacket featuring quite a few black elements and cut-out designs. The white cross lines on the outfit, the metal badge on the collar, and the black-and-red inner layer brought a cool, badass vibe distinct from her usual look. To match this atmosphere, I deliberately intensified my winged eyeliner to make my gaze appear sharper. Paired with the long black umbrella featuring patterned interior detailing in my hand, I instantly switched into a quiet and focused state in front of the lens. The umbrella's texture and weight felt very solid, perfectly sustaining the aura of the whole shot. The dark color palette accented with red and white provided a striking visual contrast even under outdoor natural light. This slightly mysterious presentation is a style I personally adore.

When I switched to the second set of gear, the mood instantly brightened up. The blue-and-white sailor top paired with a pleated skirt looked clean and fresh under natural lighting and naturally brought out the character's lively, playful charm. The bright cyan portable camera in my hands served as an important prop for this shoot—not just an accessory complementing the outfit, but a great tool for immersive interaction. I intentionally adjusted the shooting angles, holding the camera up in front of me to create a candid, relaxed feel. The black choker around my neck with blue thin straps and metal buckles added subtle decorative accents that didn't overwhelm the look while remaining highly recognizable.

As for styling the wig, this short pink wig needed enough layers trimmed into it. In particular, the length of the bangs and the curvature of the side ends had to be repeatedly adjusted to achieve that effortless, light feather-like feel without looking messy. Regarding makeup, I used light-purple contact lenses for the second look, paired with soft, translucent eye makeup to make my eyes look brighter and innocent, forming a sharp contrast with the sharp gaze from the first set. The outfit styling was also carefully considered—for instance, in the second photo, pairing the short skirt with nude stockings not only added layer depth to the overall look but also made the proportions appear more harmonious. The effort put into these details ultimately shows in the final images, becoming a vital part of character authenticity.

During the shoot, the light and shadow provided natural compositional elements. The indoor marble floor with geometric lines, combined with my half-squatting pose while wearing stockings, highlighted the body lines while clearly showcasing the costume's cut and texture. Although I experimented with different emotions, these are all different facets of life that the same character could possess. Whether holding an umbrella with a deep gaze or smiling into the lens with a camera, I feel both represent parts of my understanding of this character. From accessory selection to final color grading, I strived for a unified yet contrasting texture throughout the set—every cosplay shoot is a fresh exploration of both myself and the character.
