[Sparkle cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail: Night Shadows at the Bar Counter

This Bar scene and the red-and-black color palette were specially prepared to match the design of Sparkle in Honkai: Star Rail. The overall hair and makeup took nearly two hours, especially the wig—the silver-white twin tails combined with a customized black top hat with red trim, topped with two upright white bunny ears, created immense visual impact. Red heart-shaped makeup was specially drawn on both cheeks, which, paired with reddish-pink contact lenses, presented a semi-ambiguous allure between dreamy and dangerous under the bar's dim, warm-and-cold intertwined lighting.

During the shoot, capturing the right emotion in the eyes was paramount. Wearing a red, black, and white ruffled dress accented with black fingerless gloves and a black necktie, the posture of sipping a drink at the bar counter needed to balance worldly composure with a touch of sly, cunning playfulness. The lighting was subtly placed—the wooden wine racks and diamond lattice shelves behind reflected faint, moody gleams, creating an incredible atmosphere. I initially thought about trying full-body and long-leg poses, but being seated, the focus remained on the upper body. The props in hand were also carefully selected: the glass of red wine, the plate of pastries on the table, and the red decanter added rich texture to this photoshoot. For post-processing color grading, a warm vintage tone was chosen to preserve the bar's authentic feel. Sparkle from Honkai: Star Rail already has a highly recognizable design; while striving for fidelity, I added some of my own touches so the entire frame feels like storytelling from bygone days.

The day of the shoot consumed quite a lot of energy. Although the outfit looked stunning, wearing the white wig together with the hat put considerable strain on my neck and scalp over long periods, and the dim bar environment required finding optimal angles for fill light. Fortunately, the photographer was exceptionally cooperative—we used several lights with varying color temperatures, ultimately crafting the light and shadow ambiance of this set. As for makeup, the emphasis was on accentuating the eyes. I used vibrant peach-pink contact lenses and deepened the eyeshadow contours to make the gaze look more profound and expressive on camera. The two hearts beneath the eyes were both cute and subtly mischievous, perfectly fitting the character's personality. Looking in the mirror after finishing makeup, I felt I had locked into the right state.

Regarding the attire, this dress with bold red, black, and white color blocks has abundant layers of fabric. The ruffled tiers at the chest and cuffs were already eye-catching while standing; sitting down naturally formed a relaxed, slightly languid posture, perfectly matching the guard-down vibe in a bar. The black gloves not only enhanced color contrast but also added elegance to hand gestures. Overall, this indoor shoot was a thoroughly engaging creative experience spanning different styles to bring everyone a story-rich visual narrative. The core tone was to express a quiet, mysterious aura, which, integrated with the Bar scene backdrop and props, formed a compelling cinematic story.

After the shoot, post-processing took a long time. Because some shots focused on the bottles in the background, perspective and depth-of-field adjustments were made in post to help the subject pop from the complex background. Using foreground and background composition gave the set stronger spatial depth. The red sections on the chest and cuffs actually featured slightly reflective fabric; boosting highlights there in post enriched the garment texture, complementing the character's aloof glamour. Collaborating with such a fresh setting was an unforgettable experience in this 2D cosplay journey.
