[Wang Dong Cosplay] The Blue and Pink Phantom Butterfly of The Unrivaled Tang Sect, Companionship Starting from Strands of Hair

When I decided to shoot this Wang Dong cosplay look, the focus was placed on the character's iconic visual symbols. The wig is absolutely the soul of this look. To recreate the effect of ice blue at the top transitioning to light pink at the tips, I searched for a long time before finding this sequin wig material that comes with delicate silver glitter. Under the light, the glitter on the hair strands presents a starry reflection effect, which perfectly fits the dreamy yet slightly cool temperament in the setting. Taking care of this wig took a lot of effort; it needed to maintain that spiky, fluffy, and messy look while making the gradient transition look natural and not stiff. When spraying the setting spray, I had to finely adjust the direction of each hair strand.

For the makeup, to complement the overall cold color scheme of the look, I chose to wear a pair of light purple-grey colored contacts, which makes the gaze look deep and carry a touch of storytelling in front of the camera. The eye makeup did not use overly brilliant or heavy large-area blending, but used grey-purple and cool brown tones as a base, placing the focus on the eyeliner contour, slightly elongating the outer corners of the eyes to give the gaze more penetration. The lip makeup chose a matte red bean paste color, which can enhance the complexion without stealing the visual focus from the exaggerated hair color in this blue butterfly makeup and styling.

The matching logic for the clothing is to keep it as simple as possible because the hair color and the butterfly prop are already eye-catching enough. A pure white short zippered jacket, paired with a black crew-neck base T-shirt—the black-and-white color clash of the inner layer can anchor the bright and glittering elements of the look well, while also making the frame look cleaner and sharper. I particularly like the gloss of this white jacket, which can present a great texture under the soft lighting of the studio.

The prop for this look is a royal blue artificial butterfly, with white spot decorations on the wings. The metallic-textured antennae and body have a strong reflection effect under the light. Holding it in hand or placing it on the chest, this striking stroke of blue echoes with the cool tone base of the background, adding a touch of vividness to the entire frame. During the shoot, I specially tried different postures. Silently staring into the camera while holding the butterfly, or doing a "shh" action by placing it near the lips like in Figure 3, can convey different emotions. The posture in Figure 3 is very natural, with an intimate feeling of communicating, interacting, and telling secrets to someone, which also fits very well with the "陪伴" (companionship) temperament of the character I want to display. Although the post includes an OOC apology, within the scope of my ability, I hope to get as close as possible to that character whose soul deeply exudes resilience and tenderness through the costume, makeup, styling, and even expressions. Although this shooting process was tiring, every shot frozen is a brand-new interpretation of the character's charm.
