Shooting this Wang Dong cosplay, the texture of the wig and the fidelity of the color were the points I focused on the most.

The blue and pink gradient wig color selected this time seems simple, but to create that fluffy, spiked, and slightly messy look, along with the shimmering tinsel effect, the workload in styling was actually quite massive. To recreate that bold spiky hair from the anime for an accurate 2D character recreation, I adjusted the support at the hair roots and the direction of the hair strands multiple times, and the pink highlights also needed to blend naturally with the blue.

Regarding clothing, the white short jacket is the core piece. It had to be form-fitting to showcase the waistline, so I specifically chose a midriff-baring inner top. The blue butterfly prop on the chest is the soul of this look. Its color is extremely vibrant. To recreate it, I repeatedly compared the light, shadow, and color of the original work, fixing it to the inner edge of the jacket, which beautifully breaks the monotony of the white top.

For the makeup, I wanted to focus on highlighting Wang Dong's cool and slightly tsundere demeanor. The ice-blue colored contacts are the finishing touch, instantly maximizing the 2D anime atmosphere. For the eye makeup, I used slightly winged eyeliner and enhanced the blending around the eye contours to modify the eye shape. The lip color chose a more natural, pinkish red-bean paste hue, which doesn't steal the spotlight from the eyes while maintaining a healthy complexion.

During the shoot, the coordination of this set of poses was also quite interesting. For example, the pose of crossing arms and raising a single finger requires good control over the shoulder angle and finger position to appear natural and unforced. In the shot holding the butterfly prop, to emphasize the perspective relationship between the hand and the prop, the photographer used a slightly wide-angle lens, cooperating with the lighting arrangement to make the blue prop blend seamlessly with the background light effects.

After the entire shoot, I feel that for this kind of character who is cold outside but warm inside, subtle changes in expression are highly critical. There's no need for too many smiles; locking the gaze and slightly raising the chin can convey the character's aura. The wig slightly covering one eye is actually a small detail that increases the character's sense of mystery and fidelity. Additionally, I also tried to keep my back straight when posing, which makes the character look more confident.

Regarding the details of the butterfly prop, I specially selected a style with clear wing textures and high color saturation, and utilized a reflector to appropriately add fill light to the butterfly during shooting, enhancing its three-dimensional feel. The choice of costume fabric also took into account the actual shooting effect; the white jacket needed to have a certain crisp stiffness, otherwise it could easily look cheap, and at the same time, the cuffs of the jacket were given a stacked treatment, which feels quite tension-filled with every movement. I worked on the wig for a long time to get this look; the scattered pearl powder among the hair strands looks truly beautiful under the lights.

In terms of expression, I abandoned the sweet smiles commonly seen in traditional beautiful girl cosplays. Instead, I used more micro-expressions, such as slightly tilting the head, casting the eyes down, or simply not looking at the lens, utilizing these details to convey the mental state of the character Wang Dong. This vibe carrying a touch of androgynous beauty and cool temperament indeed poses relatively high requirements on makeup and lens control. To prevent the movements from looking stiff, I was always continuously adjusting the posture of my hands and torso during the shoot, trying to make the body lines look smooth.

The shooting environment this time was very simple, primarily relying on a solid-color background and excellent lighting to highlight the person. I found that a minimalist background conversely highlights the colors of the hairstyle and clothing better, keeping the visual center of gravity entirely on the character. This obsessive clinging to details is probably exactly what makes doing cosplay the most addictive; although tiring, seeing the final presented visuals makes me feel everything was worth it.

In fact, this was also my first time attempting a character with such a strong, magical, iridescent style. From preparing the wig to finding the right butterfly prop, and then to coordinating the overall outfit, every single step needed to be as detailed as possible. To give the photos more texture, the photographer used a highly soft, cool-toned light source in the lighting setup, which just happened to echo the colors of my blue and pink gradient wig and blue butterfly prop.

During the shoot, I was also constantly adjusting my angle facing the camera, ensuring the clarity of the jawline to make the facial features look more three-dimensional. For this type of character carrying a sense of youth and a bit of a tsundere attribute, you can't be too tensed up while shooting, otherwise you lose that casual agility. Therefore, the live atmosphere was also relatively relaxed, and many times we were snapping photos while chatting; many seemingly casual movements turned out to be more natural than those intentionally posed.

Of course, every cosplay shoot has its flaws—for instance, the wig occasionally gets messy during movement, and the folds of the clothes sometimes need slight adjustments in post-processing. However, it is precisely these processes of trial and adjustment that fill every single output with a sense of achievement. I feel the meaning of cosplay is not just outer similarity, but capturing that unique temperament and energy the character brings to us in that exact split second. Although there is still room for improvement in this set of works, it has achieved my expected results. Exhibiting Wang Dong's youthfulness, self-confidence, and subdued tsundere traits from The Unrivaled Tang Sect is a highly interesting thing. I also hope to challenge characters of more diverse styles in upcoming shoots, continuing to explore more multifaceted styling possibilities.
