When shooting this Robin Summer swimsuit outfit, the weather was uncooperative, and it began to rain. The outdoor swimming pool, originally under clear skies, was shrouded in heavy clouds in the blink of an eye, with raindrops tapping against the water's surface to stir up ripples. At that time, I was secretly wondering whether the shoot could even continue. But upon reconsideration, rainy and overcast days have their own perks: under such weather, the light becomes natural diffuse reflection without harsh direct glare, making the illumination very soft. For capturing translucent skin and delicate light and shadow in Swimming pool photography, this turned out to be an unexpected pleasant surprise.
The first photo was shot standing by the water. The single-leg standing pose seems light and effortless, but in practice, it truly tested my balance because the wet, slippery pool edge required my feet to grip the ground firmly to stabilize my center of gravity. At the same time, I had to control the angle to showcase my body curves. The train of the skirt behind was actually quite heavy, requiring wind and precise candid capture to present that fluttering dynamic motion. Regarding props, the halo on top of the head and the feathered wings beside the ears had to be secured among hair strands; with raindrops hitting them, I was constantly worried they would slip off. My mindset then was to shoot quickly, racing against time to finish this sequence of poses before the rain worsened.
The second photo was taken sitting on a rattan lounge chair by the pool, holding that giant blue-and-white swim ring. The difficulty of this shot lay in coordinating the hand and leg poses. Extending the legs forward with toes pointed is a pose that requires active exertion so that the lines appear slender and graceful on camera instead of looking bunched up. While hugging the swim ring, tilting the head slightly and looking into the lens creates a relaxed vacation vibe. In reality, during the shoot, because of the strong wind on a rainy day, I was trying hard to steady my breath, shivering from the cold, and keeping my waist and core constantly engaged to maintain an elegant seated posture.
In terms of details, this outfit has many highlights. The white top features delicate beaded tassels that display great texture under soft light. The paired dark blue translucent skirt hem drapes over the water, echoing the pool water's color beautifully in this Blue theme. The yellow fabric sunflower at the waist is a very eye-catching accent. The blue wig didn't look overly harsh on an overcast day either, giving off a translucent, airy feel instead.
The hair and makeup for this photoshoot were also very elaborate: red eyeshadow paired with light blue pupils appeared full of spiritual vitality under the overcast light. The overall color palette was dominated by broad areas of blue, white, and a touch of yellow in a coherent Blue theme. Because we shot outdoors, the pool water in the background, distant greenery, and sky all shared blue-green tones; blending into them ultimately produced a wonderful visual effect. I think this unique soft lighting of a rainy day, combined with meticulous control over each pose, was the biggest highlight of this photo set.
