Today I cosplayed Robin at the Firefly Anime Convention; the on-site sunlight and lawn were truly perfect for outdoor shooting. I had polished the details of this outfit for a long time—the purple fabric was specially chosen with a subtle shimmer texture, which gives off a faint gloss when moving under outdoor light. Paired with white chiffon and a plush collar, the overall layering really comes out. To recreate the character's sense of lightness, I also adjusted the angle of the wing props on the back; although they can't be seen in selfies, the effect is great when walking around on site. Wig trimming was arguably the most exhausting part this time; to make the hair strands look fluffy and airy, I styled it in layers and sprayed a bit of setting spray on the outer layer. However, because the outdoor wind was quite strong, it instead blew out a casual, messy natural feel, with a few strands of hair floating in front of my face, which unexpectedly created a great atmosphere.
In terms of makeup, the focus was placed on the eye makeup: light blue contact lenses paired with flushed eyeshadow and shattered diamond glitter under the eyes, trying my best to approach that translucent yet somewhat stage-like effect. The small halo and flowers on the accessories were also reinforced to prevent them from falling off in the crowded convention environment. Actually, moving around in this costume at the convention has a certain degree of difficulty—the gloves are long, and there are many bowties and metal accessories, so every time I raise my hand or walk, I have to be slightly careful for fear of rubbing or snagging threads.
While wandering around the exhibition area, I happened to encounter another amazing cosplayer, and we immediately started a selfie mode right on the lawn. Candid shots from a passerby perspective are truly magical; without deliberate posing, just the moment of the two of us huddled together looking at the phone screen recorded the truest and happiest state. The on-site lighting was quite ample, and the white reflector effect made the skin texture look very translucent. While communicating with fellow fans, everyone also discussed the pattern and fabric choices of this costume, exploring how to make wearing it more comfortable. There were really a lot of people at the convention site, and various groups were shooting official photos or group pictures near the grass and corridors. While looking for selfie angles, I also casually observed other creators' makeup and styling, learning a lot of small tips on fabric handling and wig styling. For instance, some cosplayers used invisible clips at the hair ends to secure small accessories without ruining the hairstyle, an idea I plan to try when I get back. Although the weather that day was a bit warm, sweating all over in long gloves and layers of clothes, the moment I saw the photos on my phone, all the fatigue vanished. While organizing the photos, I found that these natural candid shots are even more pleasing to the eye than some serious retouched photos, preserving the bustle and authenticity unique to anime conventions. Back in the resting area, my friend and I were still reviewing today's makeup and styling, discussing places to improve for the next outdoor shoot, such as adjusting the wearing position of the headwear or making the base makeup more sweat-proof. In short, being able to share my love for the character with everyone at the convention site and leave behind such vivid photos was truly a wonderful experience.
