[Sunohara Shun cosplay] Even If I've Shrunk, I'm Still Shun!

When shooting the on-location set for Sunohara Shun (Small) from Blue Archive, we set our scene in this lush, green garden on day one. Sunlight filtering through the dense leaves naturally formed dappled patterns of light and shadow, perfectly complementing the refreshing baseline required for this blue-and-white uniform.

The tailoring of the outfit was essential: the deep-blue miniskirt features a high-slit design with white piping framing the side of the legs, so when moving, the skirt gently sways to subtly reveal the top rim of the white stockings. The stockings' fabric offers moderate translucency, preventing harsh glare under diffused outdoor light and smoothly transitioning between fabric texture and natural skin tone. The large white bow hairpiece perched overhead acts as the visual high point, guiding focus directly toward facial expressions and the hairstyle's silhouette in this White thigh-highs outfit.

For props, I chose a candied hawthorn skewer wrapped in clear cellophane. The cellophane's delicate glint beneath tree shadows harmonized wonderfully with the blurred bokeh in the foreground. The candy's vibrant crimson provided a striking accent against the predominantly blue, green, and white palette, enhancing overall color contrast.

The greatest hurdle during shooting was composition. To accentuate a youthful and petite silhouette for Character accuracy, the photographer tested various angles. Ultimately, we opted for a slightly high-angle perspective, using blurred foreground greenery as a natural frame while positioning the subject on the right side of the frame. This framing softened the rigid lines of the stone wall behind while making the posture look much more dynamic. Handling this costume outdoors truly tested our patience, as sunlight shifted with moving clouds, altering lighting angles by the minute.

The core challenge in post-production was "scaling down" the height, as mentioned in the description. Reshaping proportions is far more than simply shrinking parts; it requires harmonizing transitions between body parts. In this step, the focus was compressing torso length while subtly narrowing shoulder width to restore the head-to-body ratio of a youthful, petite frame. To keep the image from distorting, extensive touch-ups were done on fabric folds and edge lines, which took considerable time. While I don't typically rely on heavy filters to alter real-world colors, white stockings easily blow out under direct sunlight, requiring careful control over highlights to retain skin texture and stocking details—which is likely why many cosplayers favor gentle forest lighting for Outdoor cosplay.

The shoot day was quite humid, yet the uniform fabric proved breathable, avoiding noticeable sweat issues. The white thigh-highs stayed pristine outdoors, as we deliberately avoided fallen leaves and dirt in framing. Although portraying the younger version, Shun's intrinsic poise as a skilled sniper remains. Therefore, despite the compact silhouette, my facial expression stayed relaxed and poised, avoiding forced "cute" faces in favor of a calm, serene gaze toward the camera.

The focus of this set was placed on natural lighting interaction. Moving away from heavy indoor studio lights in favor of outdoor natural light gave the entire frame a sense of breath. The deep blue uniform displayed a more understated, sophisticated elegance in daylight, forming a classic pairing with the pure white stockings and bow.

Reviewing the raw shots afterward, there was still room to optimize lighting and camera angles. Fortunately, post-processing aligned the visual focus, achieving that initial impression of being "small yet dependable." For fans of Blue Archive, this level of Character accuracy might evoke fond resonance with the game's story. Bringing this photo to life—from prep and props to framing on set and fine retouching—was filled with the pure joy of exploration and creation.
