[Taihou Cosplay] Azur Lane Disciplinary Committee Member: Classroom Desk Light and Shadow

This Disciplinary Committee JK uniform for Taihou from Azur Lane is one of my recent favorite shoots. Choosing a classroom as the location was largely to fit the character's background setting, and I also hoped that through the light, shadow, and real-world scene, the daily anime-style atmosphere could be naturally integrated into reality, creating a more cinematic effect.

In terms of costume accuracy, the fabric and cut of the shirt were key. To capture the neat yet slightly lazy look of the original design, I specifically chose a slightly loose white shirt with a well-fitted collar, paired with a classic black ribbon bow tie. The pleats of the short skirt had to be crisp and the cut needed to fit snugly, while still leaving a bit of room to showcase the uniform feel of a disciplinary committee member. The outerwear featured a red and yellow arm band design, which added a perfect pop of color to the pure white top and black bottom, breaking up the monotony of a simple black-and-white uniform. For the stockings, I went with sheer black tights that reflect a natural matte texture under the light while beautifully shaping the leg lines.

Regarding the poses, I intentionally tried two different angles to showcase the character's charm from various perspectives. The first image features a pose sitting sideways on a classroom desk with legs naturally crossed, holding a pencil as if taking notes or thinking. This pose is relatively reserved, focusing attention on the character's upper body expressions, hair strands, and sleeve details. Compositionally, the subject is firmly centered, and the background blur beautifully hides the messy classroom elements, highlighting the clean outline of the uniform against the window's side light.

The second image is a very bold, low-angle shot. I leaned back and extended my legs toward the camera. This angle is a real test of body flexibility and sacrifices some facial details in exchange for a highly dynamic perspective. Under the wide-angle lens, the black tights produce an excellent elongating effect, filling the composition with a strong sense of spatial perspective. This angle is incredibly helpful for displaying the character's leg lines, as well as projecting that casual, lazy, and slightly tsundere mood in a classroom environment. Sitting on the edge of the mid-high desk, the downward-looking gaze also gives viewers an immersive sense of presence.

For the lighting on the shooting day, I chose the afternoon. Sunlight poured in obliquely from the large grid windows on the right side of the classroom, creating highly geometric, long rectangular patches of light on the wooden desks and dark floors. This hard light source was highly beneficial for restoring the lighting atmosphere of the character's original art, not only outlining the rim light of the character but also creating varying layers of depth on the pleated skirt and tights. The angle of the light projection brought a high contrast of light and dark, giving the image a sense of restraint and tension akin to Japanese-style photography rather than a flat lighting effect. In post-processing, I kept color grading minimal, focusing primarily on white balance correction and enhancing the contrast between highlights and shadows to balance the warm and cool tones, striving to restore the natural texture seen on-site.

As a coser who has participated in many on-location shoots, I personally value the integration of the environment and the character's state. There is no need to force sharp, rigid poses; instead, in a relaxed state under the afternoon light, I managed to find that casualness and playfulness hidden beneath the disciplinary committee member's serious exterior. This set of photos has very few distracting background elements, focusing on showcasing the possibilities of a JK uniform under different camera lenses. This record is both an interpretation of the character and a frozen moment of that day's light and shadow.
