[Evanescia cosplay] Gear and Night Scene Photography for the May 2nd AM03 Independent anime convention tour

The process of applying for the AM03 Independent anime convention tour was actually a bit more cumbersome than expected. Especially to ensure perfect photos for May 2nd, everything from early wig trimming and precise makeup color testing to prop transportation plans had to be repeatedly considered. Bringing the character Evanescia to the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai makes me feel quite excited. After all, prep time before a convention always feels insufficient, especially for someone like me who loves using different types of photo studios and night industrial vibes to showcase different sides of a character.

This time, I brought several sets of photos with different atmospheres, which happen to correspond to different states of participating in the convention on May 2nd. The first photo was shot in a bright, transparent indoor hall carrying a vintage suitcase, where the lighting was highly three-dimensional; huge steel roof structures and glass curtain walls presented natural light wonderfully. This deep blue jacket paired with a white shirt and neckerchief actually poses a real test for styling layers, as red accents at the neckline contrast against the large expanse of pure white skirt. To keep the skirt hem from looking monotone, I specifically adjusted the petticoat shape so it felt light and ethereal while walking.

The fourth and sixth photos were completed in an outdoor industrial area at night, which are night atmosphere shots I personally find very satisfying. The design scheme for the fourth photo features black, gray, white, plus an eye-catching red weapon; lit by high-contrast red light at night, it easily creates an urgency of battle ending or an imminent strike. In Cosplay photography, the skirt combined with leg straps leaves just enough negative space on the thighs, paired with black thigh-high socks to infuse temperament into the character's cold, grim aura. The sixth photo features blonde hair paired with red-framed glasses under a loose pink jacket; against the night scene, blue-cyan light strips and red gantry cranes create a striking red-blue contrast.

The fifth photo returns to a quieter and more mysterious atmosphere: white top and pants, white-to-blue gradient wig tips, plus dragon horns atop the head—ideal for shooting under soft lighting. This white robe style of clothing particularly tests fabric drape; I put a lot of work into the embroidery and silver detail accents, hoping to reflect that light, warm, and gentle texture at the convention.

In fact, taking these showcase photos prior to the Independent anime convention tour application for every con is always a physical test. Switching makeup looks and tweaking wigs multiple times across different settings meant I often had to shuttle between indoors and outdoors carrying a large prop case. From May 1st to May 3rd, Anime Market 03 will open; the National Exhibition and Convention Center is massive, so I've calculated route plans to and within the venue in advance so that on May 2nd, wearing complex gear won't result in unnecessary walking. I hope on the official event day to meet fellow enthusiasts in the hall who like the same style or are also applying for the Independent anime convention tour, so we can explore the convention and browse booths together.

Since this application aligns with the May Day holiday, considering foot traffic and commuting pressures, making a good photo plan means taking good care of myself too. I'll bring energy supplements so high temperatures or crowds don't affect my state. Participating this time, I must get every detail of Evanescia right. Convention lighting is actually far more complex than outdoor shoots—often overhead or diffuse light—demanding higher standards for makeup, especially eyeshadow and lip shade choices. To give Evanescia better three-dimensionality at the event, I'll use shading to deepen contours; high ambient brightness can easily wash out face details into a flat white cake if makeup is too light. For every convention, I look forward to seeing other talented cosplayers or browsing interesting anime merchandise booths.

I hope my application goes through smoothly so I can bring everyone a unique visual experience on May 2nd. Although this gear is somewhat heavy, enduring a bit of fatigue for great photos is entirely worth it.
