This Honkai: Star Rail Evanescia "Moon-Waited Blossoms" themed cosplay photo set has finally met everyone. In truth, for this set of photos, we put a tremendous amount of effort into the preparatory work. From the selection of costume materials to the styling of the wig, every step underwent repeated deliberation. To recreate that dreamlike feeling belonging to the 2D anime world, the details of this outfit were replicated almost one-to-one, especially the layered design at the waist and those eye-catching small decorations, which feel exceptionally textured in hand.
The sunlight on the day of the shoot was actually fantastic, but to make the lighting softer and imbued with that aesthetic, atmospheric feel, the photographer Masaka put a lot of thought into the lighting setup. The edge lighting where hair strands are slightly translucent under backlight in the photos, as well as the overall hazy feel as if shrouded in a thin mist, largely stem from using the KENKO BLACK MIST NO.05 filter. Paired with the SONY A7M5 body and the FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM and FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II lenses, whether shooting full-body grand scenes or facial close-ups, the image resolution is exceptionally superb while retaining the dreamy texture of softened highlights brought by the black mist filter.
Because I personally pursue a strong sense of narrative in images, we experimented with many different angles during pose design. For instance, when holding that pink long sword, how to grip it so it appears both natural and powerful while also accommodating expression management in front of the lens. Those photos of me sitting on the ground that everyone sees—I actually maintained that posture for a long time; to showcase the leg lines more beautifully while also letting the skirt hem of the outfit naturally drape into a graceful arc, I quietly adjusted my sitting posture several times underneath. This sword actually has a certain weight, and swinging it while maintaining expression management is truly a physical workout.
The arrangement of cherry blossoms, bamboo, and those Japanese-style lanterns in the background was also built up bit by bit by us, hoping to instantly immerse everyone visually into that atmosphere filled with Japanese style. The cloth printed with calligraphy fonts spread on the ground merged with the surrounding real scenery, so even just sitting quietly there, one could feel the wonderful spark collided by classical and modern elements. During shooting breaks, I also tried playing with the on-site prop folding fan and paper umbrella; the feeling was magical, as if I were truly placed on that street in full bloom.
Although the entire shooting process was quite exhausting, when seeing the final rendered images, I felt all the efforts were completely worth it. This time, through the lens, my understanding and love for this character in my heart were infused into every glance and posture. Whether it's the interweaving of light and shadow or the presentation of costume details, I hope to display that most perfect Evanescia in my heart to everyone. I also hope this work, filled with sincerity and sweat, allows everyone to feel the charm of the character herself.
