[Castorice Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail—May Death Defend You and Me

This set of photos features Castorice from Honkai: Star Rail. From the early material preparation and design to the final shoot, the entire creative process was very dedicated. Today, I'm specially here to share the details and behind-the-scenes thoughts of this set of photos with everyone.

Let's talk about the outfit first. The entire set centers on a short dress spliced in white and dark blue. My favorite part is its hollow-out waist design; this just-right negative space highlights the waistline without looking overly heavy. Paired with the layered ruffles on the skirt hem, it gives the entire look a very ethereal, Magical Girl Style aura. The dress is adorned with several 3D flower decorations in pink and purple, as well as a bow on the chest and cascading ribbons, all boasting excellent texture. For the lower body, it's paired with greyish-blue tight leggings and long, over-the-elbow gloves, with the white and dark blue splicing echoing the clothing theme. The shoes are blue-and-white platform ankle boots, which not only add height but also add weight to the overall delicate look.

Regarding the wig, to restore the character, I wore a long lavender-white wig with straight bangs, topped with an exquisite small crown and hair accessories. The most distinctive feature is undoubtedly that pair of pointed elf ears, showcasing an elf ear style, with dark blue bow headbands at the sides. The addition of these accessories makes the visual effect of the head much richer. For makeup, I opted for soft and clear tones, focusing on a sharp gaze, hoping to convey the character's cold yet resilient temperament through a clean facial expression.

The focus of this shoot actually lies in the coordination with special effects. The photographer and I designed a large number of purple energy effects, including purple lightning branches that look like they are tearing through space, shattered crystals, floating purple energy orbs, and several translucent butterflies glowing with an eerie blue light. In order to capture these magical elements during the shoot, I needed to strike specific hand gestures and positions to coordinate with the lighting and post-production compositing. In the initial on-site environment, these special effect lights put the fluidity and stability of my movements to the test. Additionally, many floating light spots, petals, and streaming lights were added to the frame. These elements greatly enhanced the ethereal and shattered beauty of the images, giving the static photos a dynamic feel of a frozen moment of magical explosion.

In terms of poses, the full-body photo in Figure 2 was relatively difficult to capture. Because that posture required maintaining the overall balance of the frame while the skirt hem and ribbons were blown by a fan, all while controlling my gaze into the lens to maintain the character's detachment and tension. Figure 1 leans more toward a close-up, which allows the viewer's gaze to focus more on the facial expression and the hollow-out design of the upper body. Once the final photos came out, I felt both the overall atmosphere and character accuracy achieved my expectations.

Every time I engage in this type of cosplay photography with strong visual effects, the most time-consuming part isn't changing costumes, but how to use body language to match the character's mysterious and heavy sense of destiny in the game. Although the shooting process was a bit tough with the placement of various props and lighting adjustments, seeing the final product where purple lightning bursts around me and blue butterflies flutter about made me feel that all the effort was completely worth it. The character designs in Honkai: Star Rail have a lot of depth. Being able to express my love for the character through cosplay this time was a wonderful experience.
