Both packages arrived on the same day, so I unboxed both Frieren cosplay costumes right away to compare and try them on. On the left side of the picture is the 74 RMB set, and on the right is the 92 RMB set. Didn't bother wearing a wig or switching into boots, just stepped right into my thick-soled white slippers for a trial—focusing purely on an unvarnished, authentic Cosplay review.
The most immediate feeling after wearing them is that the base fabric for both outfits is quite thin. Given summer wear and this price bracket, getting the colors and tailoring right is already a passing grade. But what truly sets them apart lies entirely in the execution of small details.
Looking first at the cape shoulders, I took a dedicated close-up comparison. On the gold trim of the 92 RMB set, the red gem ornament is encircled by a border of rhinestones, looking wonderfully delicate and premium. In contrast, on the 74 RMB set, the gem is merely a plain flat disc glued onto the fabric surface, with a white elastic band awkwardly sewn beside it—seemingly a hasty fixation solution that instantly looks out of place.
Examining the sleeve streamers next, the streamers on the 92 RMB set are overall smoother, with gem settings matching the shoulder pieces, resulting in a much cleaner drape. The gold fabric on the 74 RMB set shows noticeable creasing and lacks rhinestone embellishments, making even its light reflectivity appear cheap. Consequently, when posing, the sleeves on the 74 RMB set constantly curled up and lacked crisp structure.
The difference in skirt length is also quite intuitive. Aligning both waistlines at the same height for comparison, the skirt hem on the 92 RMB set is noticeably shorter. Since proportion is paramount in cosplay attire, a slightly shorter hem elongates leg visual lines, making the 92 RMB design clearly truer to the original character design in Frieren: Beyond Journey's End.
The accessory that struck me as most outrageous was the neck collar. The 92 RMB outfit includes a smooth, black faux-leather piece that stays sleek and structured with neatly finished edges. On the other hand, the 74 RMB set surprisingly included an unhemmed piece of black ribbed knit fabric—resembling a scrap of rag—where texture and craftsmanship are oceans apart.
That said, there is one identical part: the flesh-toned plastic elf ear accessories provided with both sets came from the exact same mold, showing zero difference.
So looking at the bigger picture, although the 92 RMB set is only 18 RMB more expensive than the 74 RMB one, you can clearly feel the added effort in hardware embellishments, fabric smoothness, and stitching quality. The 74 RMB Pinduoduo cosplay costume is merely basic "wearable," but at an anime convention, if seasoned ACG fans or photographers look closely, that rough texture really drags down the overall impression.
My current dilemma is that while the 92 RMB option has a better silhouette, both costumes consist of a single thin layer prone to wrinkling. When I initially bought them, I just wanted something cheap and wearable. Now with the physical products in front of me, decision fatigue is kicking in, and I'm even considering returning both to buy from a shop offering slightly thicker fabrics. But since I've already tested them, the cost-performance ratio and visual outcome of the 92 RMB set are currently far superior for Cosplay costume shopping.
