This Halloween-themed shoot was actually planned long ago. As a cosplayer who has cosplayed Frieren many times, I always feel that autumn's color palette has a natural affinity with this character. Taking advantage of the Halloween atmosphere, I finally brought this idea to life. The shooting location was chosen at the Beijing World Flower Wonderland Park, where the autumn scenery setup is very rich; purple flower clusters, haybales, and vine archways all provided excellent natural backdrops for this shoot.
To fit the Halloween theme, some custom design adjustments were made to the original costume. The classic silver-white twin-tails wig is paired with transparent elf ears, and the wide-brimmed black pointed hat is a critical focus—the curve of the brim was adjusted repeatedly to ensure it both flatters the face shape and matches the character's cool temperament. I wore a black waist-cinching dress with lace-up details, a white lace inner shirt, and a cloak with a black exterior and red interior. This classic color scheme is not only filled with tension in front of the lens but also stands out beautifully in actual scenes. The accompanying props are a crescent ruby magic staff and a vintage magic book, along with a few cute pumpkin props. Actually, the material and placement of the pumpkins were ironed out with the photographer for a long time, as we particularly wanted to present those slightly playful moments of interaction.
\ My partner for this shoot was photographer @其道, who is exceptionally skilled at capturing light, shadow, and fleeting emotions. There is a candid capture in the photos of grabbing a pumpkin; although it looks effortless, it was actually tossed and caught several times. Fortunately, the weather on the day of the shoot was great, and the natural light was very soft, making the hair strands of the wig and the translucent feel of the elf ears look very natural. We also tried framing shots inside the vine archway, where the dark-toned ambient light just highlighted the character's skin tone, presenting a serene atmosphere. The movement in front of that last reddish-orange pumpkin wall was actually meant to express a fun feeling, like Frieren thinking or hiccuping, and this little clever idea was also integrated into our shoot design.
Because this is a custom Halloween design, it differs somewhat from the standard costume in the original work. Before getting into the frame, I also repeatedly scrutinized this look, worrying it might not meet everyone's expectations of the classic image, so I also wrote a note of apology for everything in the post description. However, judging from the final photos, the overall atmosphere is still excellent, and the combination of autumn outdoor plants with the red, black, and white colors complements each other perfectly. A Halloween costume with a touch of fantasy easily yields this soft yet clear texture under natural light. Besides that, changing outfits and setting up props in this kind of outdoor park is quite physically demanding, but during the process of playing and taking photos, seeing the approval of passersby and the photographer beside me dissolved all the exhaustion within the sound of the shutter.
What these photos record is not just the process of this shoot, but also a unique memory from this autumn. Everyone can also try going to some parks with oceans of flowers or straw stacks in daily life; mixing autumn light and color with this fantasy style often collides into unexpected visual effects. Doing a cosplay photoshoot isn't solely about restoring a character; it's also another way to interpret and express one's own understanding of this character and setting. Maintaining a passion for dress-up and a rigorous attitude toward details is the only way to inadvertently leave behind the most authentic moments.
