Seeing the enthusiastic eyes of many fans and passersby on-site made all the effort feel completely worthwhile. To recreate this look, trimming the wig and shaping the circular ring headpiece on top alone took a considerable amount of preparation time. The silver-white gradient hair color, paired with the iconic green contact lenses, captured the character's soul visually. Meanwhile, fine details such as the white collar choker with its green circular pendant around the neck, as well as the shoulder guards and black arm sleeves, required meticulous polishing to deliver a texture close to the official design and my ideal vision.
The weather in Beijing was extraordinarily cooperative on the event day, and the blue-and-white booth setup perfectly matched the optical atmosphere of my blue-and-white outfit. Lighting at anime conventions is usually complex—sometimes overly yellow, sometimes too blue. To achieve natural skin tones and minimal costume color distortion, my companion and I spent a long time agonizing over lighting setups and angles. In the first image, where everyone holds up equipment to focus together, even though hands or camera gear occupy a large corner of the frame, that real, flustered warmth of trying to capture a good shot at an event captures the most touching slice of life. The candid snapshots in the beverage area were also quite casual—I happened to be drinking a yellow cold drink and impulsively recorded the moment, only to find soft lighting and a relaxed gaze made it unexpectedly lovely.
Throughout this process, I felt that bringing a character into reality is far more than simply wearing an outfit. You need to ponder what kind of aura she emits during specific movements, whether her eyes convey confidence or melancholy, and what her daily habits are. Expressing the character's soul through body language and facial expressions in photos is a field I am continuously exploring and practicing. For instance, tilting my head slightly in front of the blue-and-white display rack and lightly cupping my cheek with one hand created a classic, friendly presentation. Meanwhile, when taking photos outdoors next to that massive white inflatable plushie, I tried a pose lifting one leg with both arms opened slightly—a lively, dynamic state meant to maximize the lighthearted, cheerful mood of this costume.
This time, I chose this version of hairstyle and makeup without rigidly chasing ultimate perfection; instead, I infused some personal aesthetic choices, incorporating a touch of reddish-brown blending into the eyeshadow to render my eyes more three-dimensional and deep. Paired with the cool-toned event backdrop board, it created a wonderful color temperature contrast visually—highlighting clear skin tones while enhancing the relaxed vibe of the environment. However, a faithful restoration also implies high thresholds for great photos, because light-colored, ethereal outfits are extremely sensitive to environmental lighting—slight polarization or incorrect color temperature can make skin tones appear unnatural or the costume look cheap, which is a balance needing constant fine-tuning during outdoor shoots and Beijing Anime Convention events.
I viewed this Luo Tianyi flash mob not merely as a routine offline check-in, but as an intersection point where convention culture and reality collide. As a cosplayer, I deeply enjoy the mixture of nervousness and joy when weaving through crowds and being asked for photos by strangers. At the same time, large-scale flash mobs provide an incredible opportunity for fellow enthusiasts to connect, share their passion for the work and characters on site, and experience precious spiritual resonance.
