Ever since getting hooked on Anime-style photography, I've genuinely felt like a changed person—if I'm not obsessing over location scouting and lighting setups, I'm glued to the monitor wrestling with color balance. My roommates constantly tease me, saying the version of me that loved outdoor sports has vanished, replaced entirely by a night-portrait addict held hostage by editing software.

That said, shooting Helen (Helen cosplay) is truly a painful yet joyful experience. The fabrics in these outfits are exceptionally sensitive to light, especially the metallic-sheen accents and the crisp white military uniform. If the light gets even slightly too harsh, shadows crush into muddy black while highlights blow out, so dialing in the lighting alone took considerable time. For the location, we picked an interior with classical European aesthetics; white sculptures, sheer drapes, and a crystal chandelier complemented the character's aura remarkably well. We shifted camera angles and positions repeatedly, and the final cuts turned out truly satisfying, nailing that defined rim-lit silhouette crafted by the lighting.

What gets roasted the most is probably my late-night retouching routine. At 12:30 AM sharp, my screen flares to life, and the clattering keyboard sounds become my roommates' bedtime white noise. Whenever inspiration stalls midway, I stare blankly at the progress bar, muttering under my breath about how many sets remain unedited this month or wondering if impressions might tick up. As for venting over hotpot that a single meal could barely cover my editing subscription, it's honestly no exaggeration—investing in a decent light kit definitely stings the wallet for a while. Yet seeing the gear lined up on the shelf makes me feel every penny was spent where it truly counts.

As for the quip that 'natural-style photography has no future,' it's really just a self-deprecating inside joke in our circle. I don't believe Anime-style photography and natural realism are mutually exclusive; rather, we use light and shadow to bring characters that once lived only on paper or screens into reality, imbuing them with tangible textures. This journey from scratch—from planning and hair/makeup to shooting and post-production—offers deeply concrete fulfillment.

I used to think photography was just about snapping pretty pictures, but now I realize it's genuinely addictive. After every shoot, watching slightly unpolished RAW files gradually gain rich light-and-shadow depth through my adjustments makes all the exhaustion feel worthwhile. Although it feels like photography has completely partitioned my daily routine, this pure focus is a rare joy in life.
