[Denia Cosplay] Wuthering Waves: Pink and White Sorceress Debuts at Firefly ACG Expo

Presenting Denia at the Firefly ACG Expo was filled with challenges and wonderful surprises from initial makeup styling to on-site shooting. The costume details are exceptionally intricate—a white base spliced with black, blue, and pink panels, embellished with numerous metallic chains and gemstones, which required careful attention to dressing order. To ensure optimal visual results on the convention floor, I spent considerable time in advance shaping the wig's layers. The pink-to-white gradient hair not only needed to be teased for airy volume, but also carefully anchored with hair ornaments featuring tiny black figure silhouettes and spiral-eye patterns. The prop staff was surprisingly heavy; the structure of the glowing orb at the top and its metallic frame demanded solid stability. Carrying it all day was definitely a physical workout, but the resulting fantasy vibe made it completely satisfying.

On the day of the shoot, we chose a spot right beside the venue's floor-to-ceiling windows, a setting that resonated beautifully with the character's disposition. The intense afternoon natural light hit my side, carving an organic, radiant rim light. To harmonize with the photographer's framing, I continually adjusted my angles, using the light to accentuate the garment's textures and the vivid color of my contact lenses. The crimson gloves contrasted fiercely with the blue-and-white costume in frame, achieving stunning results with hardly any color grading needed in post. In posing, I tried resting my chin on one hand, gesturing with both hands in spellcasting motions, and dynamic candid captures while balancing on one leg, striving to let each movement express the character's lively fluidity.

The crowded buzz and chaotic lighting of a convention floor can easily be distracting, but the moment the shutter is pressed, one must lock into character instantly. Collaborating with photographer Storyteller Kiriko was wonderfully seamless; from mastering light and shadow to composing negative space, clear guidance was provided throughout. Bringing to life a character with such complex layering and heavy props is genuinely taxing on physical stamina—especially maintaining balance while standing on one foot in high heels, which requires engaging the core firmly. We shot by the window for quite some time, exploring various focal lengths. In the final cuts, the lighting feels crystal clear and luminous, with the urban cityscape outside the windows adding a surreal fusion of reality and fantasy to this Role-playing game capture.

For me, Anime cosplay isn't merely slipping into a character's wardrobe; it's about empathizing with and recreating the character's emotional presence in a specific scenario. From hair, makeup, and prop fabrication to the final execution, immense energy went into every phase of this series. Being able to leave behind these frames as Denia at the Firefly ACG Expo in this Wuthering Waves tribute was an invaluable experience.
