Many fellow fans might have seen Panty's various regular looks, but this waitress outfit can definitely be considered one of the most obscure costumes in the entire Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt series; searching all over the internet, it feels like very few fans have cosplayed it. Since I chose her, I hoped to perfectly capture that tsundere vibe of "I'm highly displeased to serve you."
A light blue shirt paired with a high-saturation bright blue skirt, topped with a white ruffled apron reminiscent of a maid outfit and a huge bow—the overall color scheme is actually very refreshing, but it heavily tests the lighting and the cleanliness of the makeup. In terms of hairstyle, the "ahoge" and thick bangs of this golden wig feature high character accuracy. To reinforce the feeling of drifting between dreams and reality, I specially kept the sharp blue eyeliner paired with light-colored pupils.
The biggest difficulty of this photo set is definitely the quad roller skates on my feet. Having to maintain single-leg support on flat ground, balance a serving tray, and even complete the "clumsy spill" motion of scattering things made controlling my entire center of gravity exhausting. Especially that one-legged stance looking up in the photo—the rolling of the skate wheels makes the body unstable, so I had to rely heavily on core strength to stay completely steady. Fortunately, the photographer's snapshot capturing was incredible this time, controlling the dynamic moments wonderfully during the actual roller skating cosplay shoot, which gave the originally flat, static poses a lot more vitality.
The texture of the pink-and-red based ice cream special drink and the cake used as props was treated very realistically; the reflection and sense of weight of the plate also added a lot of layers to the frame. Although cosplaying a lesser-known character might not garner as much resonance in the venue, and few fellow fans can quickly recognize it, it is actually quite an interesting experience for a cosplayer, as one is not bound by a fixed image.
Because this outfit has many skirt layers and waist bows, combined with the bulkiness of the skates, it actually takes up a lot of space and demands a high range of motion during the shoot. If any friends are considering this look for their anime/manga cosplay, I highly recommend getting used to walking in the shoes at home beforehand. This studio shoot plan was very clean; the pure white background completely brought out the saturation of the costume and colors, utilizing clean lighting to highlight the core demeanor of the subject. Although I was drenched in sweat by the end of the session, seeing the final images truly preserve a waitress moment belonging to Panty makes it something well worth reminiscing about.
