Shooting this set of Botsuraku Kizoku Rurikawa Tsubaki cosplay really has a great sense of atmosphere.
The old-style study background perfectly matches the character's classical and introverted temperament. For the costume, a classic black long-sleeved maid uniform was chosen, paired with a white ruffled apron and headpiece. Although the overall structure is a maid outfit, with the addition of long white gloves and white short socks, the overall lines are clean and sharp, carrying an elegant sense of order. Standing in front of the desk, the hardcover books with gilded spines and that kerosene lamp in the background, along with that retro rotary dial telephone, instantly drag people back into that scene filled with the lingering charm of the old era.
The pose in the first photo is standing, with the hand raised slightly, which perfectly showcases the crisp tailoring and form-fitting proportions of this dress, and it is also one of my personally most satisfying postures. The second photo is a bit more relaxed, sitting on the edge of the wooden table. Although looking back afterward I feel the details could be better, it is also a casual record.
Throughout the entire shooting process, the most important thing was to grasp that faint sense of composure of a fallen noble—possessing both the living habits of a high-status life and a touch of down-to-earth gentleness due to the family's decline. Whether it's the subtle gloss of the gloves or the fabric texture of this dress, they all appear quite layered under the lighting. Carefully doing prop and costume recreation is indeed a crucial part of producing a good photoshoot.
This set of photos didn't use overly complex post-processing, leaning more toward restoring the live texture through the photographer's lighting and framing, which can be considered an interpretation of the character image that is relatively close to the original work. In addition, the black-and-white maid outfit itself heavily tests facial expressions, so for the makeup this time, I specially emphasized the contours of the eyes, paired with blue colored contacts, hoping to let the gaze convey more of a sense of story. During the shoot, photographer @超弦不是萝莉控 very patiently helped me adjust many details, such as the color temperature of the lighting and the placement of the kerosene lamp, to finally present such a warm-toned and vintage image. In such a quiet environment, I felt like my entire self could settle down and immerse into the character's perspective. Personally, I feel that this non-boisterous mode of expression focused on texture matches the character's original setting quite well. I hope everyone can feel the serenity and elegance that this set of photos intends to convey after viewing them.
