This shoot features Ram cosplay from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, collaborating with photographer February Sunset to complete this set of studio Cosplay photoshoot. Compared to some characters I've portrayed previously, Ram's costume is more sophisticated in its details and tests the accuracy of hair and makeup styling even more. Beyond the pink wig and purple-and-white ribbon bow hair accessory, what required the most thought this time was the overall texture of the garments. The sheer lace material at the neckline is quite delicate; paired with the black ribbon tie, it delivers a wonderful translucency under soft light, without appearing stiff even when posing with raised arms. The three small white bows across the chest are neatly arranged and require care not to wrinkle. The white pointed cuff ornaments on the wrists also align closely with the original design.
When shooting the front-facing shot for Photo 4, to showcase the dress's silhouette, I deliberately flared out the skirt hem widely, revealing the edges of the black thigh-high Stockings and white lace trim to better capture the character's aura. To work with the photographer's lighting, I adjusted my standing posture and straightened my back, letting the light and shadow form a stark contrast across the black-and-white Maid outfit. During the shoot, I also tried pressing my hands together or clasping them in front of my chest; that side-profile set felt serene, but my personal favorite remains the front-facing shot with the flared skirt, as the composition is more expansive and natural.
Because I was portraying Ram cosplay, the lace trim on the dress, the little black bow on the chest, and the detached sleeve design are very distinctive and somewhat complex to put on—especially the arm sleeves, which required fine adjustments to align properly and prevent shifting. The studio's white backdrop was pristine; solid-color backgrounds test the cleanliness of the makeup most. I intentionally applied thick lashes and used pale pink colored contacts to complement the pink wig, making the gaze more vibrant on camera.
This shoot was a delightful experience. The poses were primarily referenced from the maid's quiet serving posture in the anime; while there might be slight imperfections, I did my best to convey her signature tsundere yet gentle charm. Shooting outdoors versus in a studio brings different feelings: studio shoots place greater emphasis on mastering camera presence, requiring one to find their own angles, where slightly lowering the head or glancing sideways can produce distinct moods. For a black-and-white Maid outfit, choosing a white backdrop is a safe, foolproof choice that highlights the black lace and white ruffles on the dress even more.
The entire session took quite a while, with certain poses repeated several times before achieving the most satisfying result. With the dual-color black and white palette free from distracting colors, the shoot's success depended mainly on the natural fluidity of movement. I tried my best to channel my everyday anime-watching impressions into the photographic atmosphere. After organizing the photos, the overall effect of this Cosplay photoshoot turned out great—the visual interplay of black and white harmonizes wonderfully with the classic original design, making it a truly memorable experience.
