This time, the subject of the shoot is Tushan Honghong from Fox Spirit Matchmaker. As a female character with extremely high popularity in Chinese animation, Tushan Honghong's temperament—which combines both an authoritative aura and a sense of girlhood—is something I have always aspired to. To achieve this, I did a lot of homework from styling to accessories, customizing a highly color-pure golden slightly wavy wig in advance and trimming the bangs according to my face shape. The fox ears were specially sourced animal ears with a strong hair-strand texture, and the hair accessories used red-and-pink roses and black-and-gold satin ribbons, beautifully accentuating the character traits when pinned in the hair.
The costume was prepared with even more dedication. I chose a modified ancient-style set dominated by red and white. The red stand-collar neck warmer is embellished with gold bells, the chest features white fabric paired with dark gold embroidered scroll patterns, and the red-and-gold waist sash is cross-tied, with two red streamers swaying along with my movements. The lower body uses two layers of material to create a sense of depth; the outer layer features light, translucent gauze wide sleeves, and the single-sided thigh ring design is also one of Tushan Honghong's signature appearance features. Paired with matching red-and-gold retro high heels, although shooting all day was truly exhausting for my feet, the on-camera effect was amazing.
For the makeup, I specially chose light blue colored contacts to restore the character. The eyeshadow used wide areas of warm orange and red blending, paired with meticulous eyeliner to make the gaze look spiritual. During the lighting process, a Zhiyun M40SE fill light and a Nicefoto umbrella softbox light were used on-site, a combination that smoothed out shadows beautifully. Coupled with the color science of the Sony A7C II body, the skin tone was restored very naturally and translucently.
Among them, I really love the half-body close-up in Photo 3. The light hits the face to form soft contrasts of light and dark, and the catchlight in the pupils makes the expression look as if scrutinizing prey while also carrying playfulness, capturing that "fierce yet cute" vibe in Tushan Honghong's personality. Photos 1 and 2 utilize the scene props to showcase the character's dynamic side. Photos 4 and 5 feature close-up interactions with the cherry blossom tree, presenting a more relaxed and casual mood while leaning against the branches.
As a participant in the Storyland IP Photography Contest, being able to shoot in a highly immersive scene and receive equipment support from friendly brands was a rare and valuable creative experience. Cosplay photography is inherently something that requires endurance and dedication. Every time I release a set of photos with such high accuracy, I do my best to get closer to the character's soul.
