A lot of thought really went into the set design for this shoot. From the vintage patterned carpet on the floor to the stacked golden satin, as well as that exaggerated giant gear prop and scattered gold coins, everything was done to recreate the character's mysterious yet slightly noble atmosphere. After spending the whole day in the studio, the lighting was specially set as this warm golden side-backlight. The Tyndall effect (light beam) in the picture was actually achieved by combining smoke cakes with spotlights, and the resulting texture is truly captivating. This costume has many details; the golden edging of the coat and the texture on the edge of the hood are quite exquisite, and the distressed cutout design of the inner top required repeated adjustments during wearing to ensure it looks natural. The metal pieces on the leg rings and riveted boots are highly reflective and absorb a lot of light, so we had to constantly use reflectors to fill in the details during the shoot. The biggest challenge was actually that prop hammer. It has a lot of weight, so lifting it up for poses really tested my arm strength. The single-leg standing pose in the fourth picture took more than ten takes to stabilize my center of gravity. During the shoot, I collaborated with the photographer on quite a few candid shots. For instance, the pose holding a gold coin in my mouth in picture one, and the interactive feel of holding up gold coins in picture six, were all spontaneous improvisations, which turned out to be more vivid than fixed poses. For the overall makeup, blue colored contact lenses were used to echo the character setting. The pink-purple long hair was specially styled to be fluffy and smooth, and paired with the golden chain accessory on the forehead and white flowers, the entire look appeared very well-coordinated under the warm light. Every time we produce photos with heavy props, it highly tests our on-site coordination skills. Fortunately, the direction of the lighting paired well with the reflective materials in the background this time. There was barely any need to tweak the color temperature in post-processing; the raw photos already possessed that magnificent, resplendent feeling of a treasure chest.
