[Eresh cosplay] Fate/Grand Order Swimsuit: Refreshing Summer Swimsuit Convention Photos Share

Summer is truly here, and with temperatures rising, it's perfect to shoot a character in swimsuit style. This time I cosplayed Ereshkigal's summer look from Fate/Grand Order, commonly known as the Space Ereshkigal cosplay state. Compared to her original solemnity, this swimsuit version carries more of an island resort's relaxed feel, so my state during shooting was also much more relaxed.

Let's talk about the outfit styling first. This one-piece suit adopted a white and blue color-blocked design, with the upper half featuring a white halter neck style that contours shoulder and neck lines nicely. The light blue bow tied at the collar is very youth-enhancing, adding a cute sense of layering to the originally simple swimsuit. The blue ruffled trim at the waist connection is a finishing touch, spliced with matching tone fitted shorts, making the overall silhouette look both sporty and playful.

Wig, headpiece, and makeup also required careful thought. Long straight golden hair is the character's soul; twin-tails tied on both sides used bright red ribbon bows, with a black cross hair clip specifically added on the right side so such iconic small details instantly evoke character traits. For makeup, to match this exotic golden hair color, I used a fair, translucent base tone. Red contact lenses combined with matching eye shadow gradient deepened eye contours, giving the gaze more spirit.

Prop selection was also packed with summer vibes. A wide-brimmed woven straw hat wrapped with purple ribbon and dotted with small pink and white flowers. This straw hat in hand wasn't just a great decoration, but provided a natural action fulcrum when hands had nowhere to rest. Additionally, that silver metal briefcase played a key role during posing, providing a reasonable support point for various standing, sitting, and kneeling poses.

This photo set was shot on location at an anime convention. Ambient light at convention venues is often messy, especially in exhibition halls with high ceilings where intense top lighting leaves deep shadows on faces, and background passersby keep moving around. The photographer cleverly used a wide aperture to blur the background, turning overhead spotlights into soft circular bokeh spots. For post-processing color grading, I avoided overly high contrast adjustments, focusing instead on softening fill light to keep skin tones looking clear and translucent while preserving the purity of the white swimsuit and the freshness of the blue ruffles.

Looking at specific poses, photo one features a sitting pose cross-legged on the floor, hands supporting the ground with body leaning slightly forward—a very relaxed posture well-suited to showcasing the character's playful, lively side. Photo two shows a sitting perspective on a high stool—the composition I'm most satisfied with—which, paired with transparent chunky-heeled white lace-up sandals, beautifully elongates leg lines. Holding a hat in one hand with the other resting naturally on the leg presents a languid, confident summer vacation feel. Photo three takes a single-knee kneeling stance leaning against the briefcase, where bare feet with white ankle ties echo the overall refreshing theme.

The convention environment was actually quite noisy with many onlookers surrounding us, yet in that moment, I felt as if I truly projected that character onto a real summer beach. When managing sitting poses in a one-piece swimsuit, one needs to intentionally tighten the core to avoid fabric bunching or unnatural folds around the waist and abdomen. All of these test a cosplayer's muscle control and expression management before the lens.

The charm of Anime-style photography lies right here—it cleverly overlaps a moment in the 3D world with the virtual character we love. Though carrying luggage on our shoulders and standing on the cold, hard floor of the exhibition hall, within the frame frozen by the lens, we seem to truly cross into a hot summer afternoon, enjoying the freedom and coolness exclusive to this single summer.
