Shooting a set of photos for Miyazono Kaori cosplay was truly an experience that left a deep impression on me in the short term. The emotional expression of Your Lie in April itself is highly delicate, so in the preparation of costumes and props, I hoped to match the temperament of the work itself as closely as possible.
For this classic gray-blue school uniform jacket, one actually needs to pay a bit of attention to the drape of the fabric selection. Combined with the red-and-white striped tie and pleated skirt inside, it can present that upright posture of a high school student. Another element is this light golden long curly wig. To restore Miyazono Kaori's light feeling with slight curls, I repeatedly adjusted the direction of the hair strands and the layers of the bangs before releasing the photos, avoiding that artificial "wig-like look" and making the entire character's complexion look more natural.
Of course, the soul prop this time is this red handheld violin. Although the posture of holding the instrument can be relatively natural for someone who has learned an instrument a bit, keeping the correct angle of the bow and violin body while balancing eye contact and the character's mental state is indeed a test for facial expression management. During the shooting process, I tried to immerse myself into the character's demeanor of playing the violin with a touch of stubbornness. Although I might not necessarily play with true intonation, presenting that focused atmosphere in front of the lens met expectations.
The location for this shoot was at the Yushui Yuanzhu B1 commercial street, where an event organized by Liangya was being held. The entire anime convention venue was brightly lit and full of light, which was highly beneficial for presenting a cool-toned school vibe. Deep thanks to the photographer for working hard to both snap dynamic violin-playing moments and avoid the crowds passing by in the background. In a relatively noisy environment like an anime convention, focusing attention on the character itself through lens language—this tacit cooperation between fellow enthusiasts—made the final presentation of this photo set look quite natural under Anime-style photography.
Out of my understanding of the work, the charm of Your Lie in April often lies in that emotion of carrying a bit of regret yet still being deeply in love, so I preferred not to smile too intentionally, but rather maintain a calm or slightly emotional gentleness. Although the shooting process was brief, being able to integrate this understanding of the character and the work into the photos is inherently one of the great joys of participating in cosplay.
