"What are you looking at!" That was the very first thought that popped into my head the moment I put on this costume. Today's outdoor location was chosen in a park featuring European-style architecture, surrounded by flagstone paths and lawns, where the natural lighting conditions were ideal for shooting. Getting ready for today's session took a considerable amount of preparation.
First, regarding the styling: the wig is a vibrant, fiery red with blunt bangs paired with a black headband, which stood out brilliantly under outdoor sunlight. To faithfully reflect the character's temperament, I deliberately wore crimson contact lenses. Wearing them does alter how your eyes perceive bright light, but for the sake of achieving a superior visual aesthetic, this small challenge was well worth it.
The tailoring of this costume is exceptionally multi-layered. The top is predominantly white, featuring a black ribbon bow at the neckline and petal-shaped decorative accents alongside black trim across the chest and shoulders. The off-the-shoulder cut required frequent adjustments to the straps during the outdoor shoot to prevent slipping. The vibrant red accessory at the waist is striking, working together with the black belt to visually emphasize the waistline. The bottom half is a dark brown midi skirt trimmed with black ruffles along the hem, creating graceful fluid arcs whenever in motion. On my legs, I wore White stockings paired with black Mary Jane shoes. The overall palette is anchored in red, white, black, and brown, delivering crisp, vivid contrast under natural sunlight.
The shooting process tested both physical stamina and meticulous control over minute details. The pose in Photo 1—leaning against a wooden pillar with arms crossed—required leaning the center of gravity slightly backward while engaging the core to keep the posture upright, with my gaze disciplined to project a slightly haughty aloofness. Photo 2 features a combat-ready stance, with the right hand half-clenched near the cheek and the left fist held before the torso; while seemingly simple, making it feel fluid rather than rigid required repeatedly practicing shoulder relaxation before rolling camera. Photo 3 is a full-body composition, stepping forward with the right leg as the skirt fans out organically. To capture that buoyant, flared silhouette in the skirt, I tested spins and subtle hops multiple times, capturing dozens of burst shots before securing the ideal frame.
Because the skirt's volume is quite substantial, walking around outdoors demanded extra caution to avoid stepping on the black ruffled hem. White stockings easily catch dirt and dust on grass and cobblestone paths, so every rest break called for thorough inspection and dusting off. Even though Mary Janes are flat shoes, navigating stone pavers still required steady footing to prevent slipping.
While outdoor lighting lacks the mechanical stability of a studio set, the natural dapples of sunlight filtering through foliage and brickwork added rich chiaroscuro layers to the frame. Photographer Gouzigouzi was remarkably professional in finding camera placements and flattering angles, experimenting with varied perspectives to bypass cluttered backgrounds and crowds. For example, in the full-body portrait of Photo 3, a slightly lower camera angle teamed with the visual line of the White stockings elongated my leg contours beautifully. Meanwhile, the mid-shots in Photos 1 and 2 focused heavily on conveying dramatic character tension through facial micro-expressions and sharp eye contact.
The entire shoot spanned several hours; from wig grooming to perfecting each pose, everything demanded thorough patience. The fabric held a crisp, structured silhouette before the lens, though keeping it immaculate took considerable effort. Overall, this outdoor shoot was immensely fulfilling—the setting resonated flawlessly with the styling, and the finished interplay of light, shadow, and color met all our expectations.
