The finished photo set brought to you this time features Mai Shiranui's Hanafuda skin from Honor of Kings. The design details of this outfit are exceptionally rich, and the very first moment I got my hands on it, I started studying how to showcase its tactile texture before the lens.
The overall costume features a color-blocking combination of white, red, gold, and purple, delivering strong visual impact. The pearl necklace across the chest and the purple bow tie serve as the finishing touches, while the inner side of the oversized outer sleeves is a vibrant red, creating wonderful layering when arms swing during motions. The headpiece is the most challenging component; that white feather paired with the metallic crown and dark blue bow requires iterative angle adjustments during wear. The wig opts for an extremely voluminous white long straight hair style, demanding massive amounts of time for styling and setting to present a natural yet dynamic, flowing effect before the camera. Purplish-red contact lenses matched with ruddy eye makeup aim to precisely capture the character's unique enchanting and dangerous aura.
The shooting location was selected as a Japanese-style room featuring tatami mats and wooden lattice sliding doors, with an open traditional white paper umbrella positioned in the background. The overall lighting leans toward cool tones, forging a mysterious and dreamy ambiance. To coordinate with the skill characteristics of the Hanafuda skin, I specially prepared multiple illustration-printed cards to serve as props. In the first photo, I opted for a close-up half-body composition, with one hand slightly raised and gaze looking straight into the lens; this posture splendidly displays the garment's chest tailoring and neck lines while making the wig's cascading drape far more prominent.
To showcase the sharpness and sexiness of the Canyon's female mage assassin, the subsequent shots shifted to a seated top-down perspective. Overhead shots effectively elongate the body shape while fully displaying the leg lines and white lace over-the-knee stockings (Stockings cosplay style), paired with boots featuring golden metal decorations, visually enhancing the overall opulence. Holding cards to show the camera, or scattering them casually across the wooden table, accompanied by a cup of green tea and a red spider lily, were all meant to inject greater narrative depth into the frame.
The shooting process for the entire photo set severely tested core strength, as numerous poses demanded maintaining a delicate balance while ensuring a sharp gaze and precise facial expression management. Throughout the shoot, I continuously communicated with the photographer regarding the direction of light and shadow; cool-toned light striking the white satin costume generated gorgeous reflections, whereas the red lining appeared even more profound within the shadows. The heavy feel of this costume and the character's lightweight agility required finding a balance through motion, with every sleeve flip and backward glance experimenting with different angles.
As one of Mai Shiranui's numerous skins, the Hanafuda styling excels brilliantly in element integration, possessing both the elegance of Japanese style and the clean-cut sharpness of a martial artist. From the early-stage preparations of wigs and accessories to continually adjusting postures on the tatami mats on the shooting day, the entire process was arduous, yet witnessing the flawless presentation of light and shadow and costume texture in the finished photos made every ounce of effort feel thoroughly worthwhile. I hope this photo set transports everyone into that enchanting canyon world filled with fantastical colors.
