When shooting this 10-person Cosplay group photo, we ran through several outdoor locations—from concrete walls under blue skies and white clouds to backlit reed beds at night, and then to the long streetlamp shadows beneath an overpass roof. In Figure 3, where everyone sits staggered on the metal stairs, each person's signature color scheme is perfectly spread out with clear compositional layering, making it ideal as the main key visual.

Organizing a 10-person set tests ground coordination and staging the most. During early communication, everyone clearly defined their positions and poses, so there wasn't much chaos during the actual shoot. Photographer @哒哒的相机 handled the lighting in a way that fit our vision perfectly—for instance, the backlighting in the reed beds in Figure 5 used golden side-backlight to outline figure contours, combining with swirling grass blades to push the night ambience to the max. Meanwhile, the strong light source casting long shadows in Figure 6, paired with the red cloth streamer held up by the central character, gave the shot much stronger dramatic conflict.

Actually, the hardest part to handle was the wide-angle lens's tolerance. When all ten of us lined up or spread out, edge distortion or overlapping figures easily occurred. The water reflection in Figure 4 is a partial composition I personally love—tilting the lens down to keep only legs and soles, using puddles on the ground to reflect upper-body details for each of us. This mirror-like displaced feeling conveys character costume color schemes while avoiding occlusion issues when standing.

Since a decade has passed since we first encountered this work, everyone held high personal standards for character styling details, costume fabrics, and prop textures. For instance, short-haired characters' hair flow, long-skirted characters' skirt layers, and small accessories like headphones and goggles worn by some were repeatedly checked against original character settings during prep. The logistics team also helped touch up sticking-out wig strands and clothing wrinkles during breaks to ensure high precision in every photo.

Outdoor group shots also involve uncontrollable weather factors. Though daytime light was plentiful, strong sunlight easily created hard facial shadows. Therefore, for Figures 1 and 3, we chose bright diffuse light environments paired with large light-colored backdrops to soften facial lighting. At night in the reed beds, additional fill lights were needed for front illumination, requiring close walkie-talkie communication between the photographer and staff.

Taking the social leap to make a complete 10-person Cosplay group photo for a franchise we've loved for so many years took real courage. Luckily, every partner involved was super reliable, complementing each other in their expertise. Those hours spent outside waiting for perfect light invisibly strengthened team chemistry. I believe great cosplay shouldn't stop at wearing the right clothes—it needs to convey the character's world through scenes, lighting, and direction. This photo set features high color brightness, so in post-production, we didn't intentionally lower saturation, preserving the vividness of the outfits under natural outdoor light.
