[Shintaro cosplay] Tribute to the Classic Anime Kagerou Project

It has been a little while since we wrapped up shooting these Shintaro cosplay and Ayano cosplay photos, and having recently organized them, I'm finally sharing them. Since it's a nostalgic vintage work and people often joke about their dynamic feeling like an old-school parental romance, we purposefully scouted a fitting location to recreate this Flashback attack from Kagerou Project (Mekakucity Actors).

Costume-wise, the focus was on the boy's red-and-white striped jersey over a black T-shirt, alongside the girl's red scarf, black sailor suit, and beige cardigan coat. I dedicated substantial effort to comparing details and fabrics against the original setting, striving to achieve an everyday casual feel with a touch of nostalgia. For hair and makeup, red contacts and black hair were used for the male styling, with eye makeup deliberately elongated and sharp to align with the character's standoffish, cool demeanor; the girl's long brown hair with red hairpins, paired with delicate makeup, beautifully conveyed the character's gentle warmth.

For the shoot, we chose a setting with overgrown weeds and concrete structures. The first shot was taken under natural daytime light, with ample sunshine making the red jersey's saturation pop intensely. The subsequent shots shifted to night; to recreate the specific plot atmosphere, I put on white wired earphones and folded paper cranes from white paper overnight as key props. The third shot captures the moment of both of us holding a sunflower together; set against the cool-toned night background, the overall ambiance was palpable. In post-processing, I deliberately preserved natural skin textures, achieved moderate color grading uniformity, and enhanced the red-and-black contrast without heavy-handed skin smoothing, maintaining maximum realism in the frame.

As a duo shoot, on-site pacing was crucial. We adjusted angles together, striving to recreate that atmosphere of subtle distance intertwined with unspoken mutual care. Being able to bring this classic look from a nostalgic anime back through the lens serves as a tribute to my original anime passion, as well as a remarkably smooth outdoor shooting experience. While some details leave room for tweaking, the overall outcome met my expectations.
