[Enomoto Takane cosplay] Thoughts on the Kagerou Project Gas Mask Girl Photoshoot

The exaggerated perspective brought by the high-angle shot perfectly matches Takane's character profile—a science girl who appears cool-headed yet carries an innocent, childlike charm. To bring this classic look to life, I spent a lot of time discussing the high-angle perspective and framing with the photographer beforehand.

The gas mask was the most hardcore prop this time, but wearing it for extended periods felt very suffocating, and condensation easily clouded the lenses. When shooting facial close-ups, I often had to hold my breath or take it off to catch some air after just a few shots. The mask's semi-transparent red lenses required careful lighting control during the shoot, as harsh reflections would draw focus away from the facial expressions. In the end, we went with a close-up composition where the mask half-covers the face, preserving the mask's cool, detached feel while revealing the red-eyed gaze.

In terms of styling, the focus was placed on the red eye look and the placement of the stickers. The ends of the black twintail wig were given subtle, natural curls, which, combined with the yellow bandages, added a touch of mechanical and post-apocalyptic aesthetic. The yellow-and-black color-blocked jacket paired with a red undershirt formed a sharp contrast against the pure, cool-toned blue background. The fabric felt smooth with an excellent drape, allowing movements to extend naturally. The facial makeup intentionally kept eyeshadow intensity low to ensure it remained clean under harsh lighting.

This outfit has actually been an obsession of mine for over a decade. From the anime designs of that era to this real-life recreation, I referenced many details from the original character sheets throughout the process, including the red-and-white canvas sneakers. Because of the high-angle perspective, the visual proportions of the lower body were compressed, which, from a petite viewpoint, highlighted the character's delicate stature. During the shoot, I intentionally adjusted my poses from different angles—such as standing with feet together and throwing slightly aggressive punches. These gestures, combined with the mask and downward angle, brought out a blend of quirky cuteness and hardcore grit.

There are still fine details to refine for the upcoming full photo set, but the overall artistic direction is settled. Next, I plan to continue Quanzhou photography for classroom scenes; a classroom in natural light paired with this school uniform look should produce a distinctly different atmosphere, while outdoor locations are also being considered. Hopefully, I will run into someone cosplaying Haruka to complete this story together.
