This time, I'm sharing an official Kagerou Project Enomoto Takane cosplay photoshoot straight to the point—after all, some nostalgia only counts when actually captured through a lens.
In fact, this set of photos took quite a bit of time on detail restoration, from initial concept to final selection. The most core elements of Takane's design are her highly recognizable short black twin tails paired with oversized white over-ear headphones, a soft beige V-neck cardigan, and a white shirt. To stay true to the character, I adjusted the curl at the tips of the wig to look more natural and thick, preventing it from appearing stiff.
We specially chose a wooden bookshelf as our shooting environment to evoke a daily yet slightly mysterious atmosphere reminiscent of Mekakucity Actors. Books casually stacked on the desk, glass bottles with cork stoppers, and small green plants on the side served as wonderful background accents. I don't really like the kind of lighting that brightens the whole studio; the soul of this photoshoot lay in that single stream of warm sunlight slanting in. It directly cut across the frame, forming sharp, well-defined highlights and shadows on the wall and my body. Compared to soft lighting, this stark light-and-shadow contrast better highlights the character's quiet demeanor with a bit of edge.
During the shoot, we followed the initial concept: in the first shot, I held a book over my head to capture a casual, playful feel; in the second, I held a book with one hand while leaning slightly—a pose that best showcased my overall body proportions. The plaid miniskirt paired with black tights exposed just the right leg line, and together with the lighting, created very comfortable visual layering; in the third shot, holding the book with both hands, I softened my gaze to record a moment as if deeply reading or lost in thought.
For this set, I also applied makeup tailored to 2D aesthetics, focusing on enlarging the eye contours while keeping the eye makeup and lip color natural yet expressive, so as not to overpower the original vibe of the character. The combination of the wig and headphones felt effortless in design, but keeping the wig neat during shooting proved to be quite a challenge. A light breeze or slightly larger movement could easily mess up the bangs, requiring constant touch-ups before pressing the shutter.
While organizing the photos, I found that the second picture—whether in composition or overall vibe—was perfect as the cover. My proportions weren't cut off at the edge of the frame, and the intersection of sunlight and shadows added a lot of detail. This shoot allowed me to experience the unique charm of Kagerou Project once again—that subtle melancholy yet imaginative everyday feel. Being able to carefully complete a cosplay work like this feels like handing in a satisfying answer to my past passion, and I hope these photos evoke shared memories from that era.
