Today I bring a Saiba Momoi cosplay work from Blue Archive. I specifically chose this Maid outfit to recreate this lively character.
The outfit uses dark blue cotton fabric with white stripe accents on the skirt hem, looking very much like a blend of school uniform and Maid outfit. The sky-blue bow tie on the chest serves as an accent, breaking the dark monotony and looking very energetic.
The big white bow at the back is definitely a highlight; its fabric is firm and stiff so that whether shot from the front or back, the shape won't collapse. White stockings paired with black single-strap Mary Jane shoes not only reflect the character's youthful feel but also nicely shape the leg lines, yielding great texture under studio lighting.
In terms of props, this stainless steel bucket and broom are the soul of this shoot. To make the scene less monotonous, a blue rag was draped over the bucket, giving the whole frame a narrative feel of "currently cleaning."
Since Saiba Momoi's lore includes cat girl attributes, a blonde twin-tail wig was selected. The twin tails on both sides are tied high, so when jumping or turning around, the tails have a great dynamic effect. I specifically put on a cat ear headband and tail; the tail features segmented colors, requiring manual position adjustments during shooting to look more natural, adding to the Kemonomimi girl charm.
The pink halo atop my head is supported by thin wire, faithfully restoring the Blue Archive character feature.
For makeup, a Japanese sweet style was chosen, blending pink and red eye shadows to emphasize innocence and a little devil smile. Wearing light purple contact lenses paired with expressive eyes aimed to recreate Momoi's playful and vibrant personality.
During shooting, to capture the most natural movements, we tried various interactions. For example, the single-leg raised stance in the first photo actually required good balance control, with the skirt hem fluttering slightly from the leg movement, exposing the white inner lining. There was also a side pose tugging the tail, where the photographer captured my turned-around glance.
The advantage of studio Anime-style photography is that lighting can be controlled evenly, and the pure white background better highlights the clothing's colors. The dark blue dress and bright pink halo form a sharp contrast, enriching overall visual colors.
Although this outfit is intricate to put on with many straps and buckles, the result after wearing it is truly brilliant. Every time I cosplay, I love adding my own understanding of the character. Wearing a Maid outfit to help clean brings a unique gap moe.
The shooting process was delightful, prop texture was awesome, and post-processing didn't involve overly exaggerated edits—maintaining original lighting as much as possible to present what closest resembles Momoi from Blue Archive in my heart.
