It is precisely this winter chill that prompted me to look back on this set of Shirasu Azusa swimsuit cosplay photos taken during the summer. As a highly popular character in Blue Archive, this swimsuit look consistently radiates a unique sense of coolness and translucency, and bringing out such an atmosphere is precisely what a summer location shoot does best.
There are actually many intricate details embellishing this look. For the hair, two very striking silver-white twin-tail wigs were used, paired with that unmistakable glowing halo atop the head. Although water splashes and sunlight can easily cause wigs to glare or look disheveled, properly combing and prestyling such bright-toned wigs allows the natural refraction of the pool's water surface to produce a wonderfully soft luster. Both sides of the hairstyle are adorned with large pink polka-dot bows and blue-purple floral accessories; these colors serve as excellent visual anchors against the predominantly white palette while beautifully echoing the blue and pink patchwork of the swimsuit. The colorful beaded necklace around the neck adds another playful touch, breaking the monotony of pure white and dark navy.
For the attire, we chose a lightweight swimsuit perfectly suited for water photography. Instead of a traditional tight bikini, it features an altered design rich in ruffles, ties, and chiffon elements. The pink bow on the chest serves as the visual centerpiece, while the arm sleeves are crafted from a sheer, color-blocked white-and-light-blue fabric. When submerged or splashed with water, this material takes on an ethereal, flowing texture; following body movements, the folds and grains of the chiffon become dynamic visual elements in the frame. The advantage of this fabric lies in its breathability and freedom of movement; even after being soaked for a prolonged period, it quickly recovers a relatively crisp form without the heavy waterlogged burden of thick fabrics.
The shooting scenes across this set were remarkably diverse. In Photo 1, sitting on the white platform at the edge of the pool, the composition is quiet and reserved; slightly raising a hand as if greeting the camera with a relaxed expression faithfully captured her quiet yet determined personality trait. Photo 2 is my favorite dynamic snapshot of the entire shoot: sitting inside a clear swim ring in the water and splashing outwards with both hands, the high-speed shutter froze the splashing droplets in an instant. That captured moment filled the image with vitality and a sense of breathing life, demanding immense skill from the photographer regarding droplet shapes and angles. When shooting such aquatic action, one must carefully align the trajectory of splashing droplets with facial expressions to avoid unflattering captures.
Moving to the beach setting, the overall atmosphere took on another transformation. In Photo 3, kneeling on fine white sand with the translucent swim ring as a prop, a slight high-angle shot beautifully accentuated the drape of the skirt and sleeves. The pure white backdrop of the sand is very flattering for silver-haired characters, offering crisp visual contrast. Photo 4 features sitting on a wooden cooler box on the beach stamped with themed graphics, backed by thatched umbrellas, beanbags, and lush greenery; these staggered leisure elements crafted an authentic, cozy summer resort feel.
Although sharing summer swimsuits in the depths of winter might feel a bit seasonally out of sync, photography itself is a medium that transcends time. While the summer heat and sun were intense, the poolside shoot went exceptionally smoothly. Photographer Master Maoju maintained a wonderful rhythm in catching light and dynamic moments, allowing us to showcase so many rich looks within just a few hours. In color grading, we refrained from distorting skin tones or the environment, preserving natural, refreshing clarity. This work reflects far more than the character's surface traits—it embodies that spontaneous vitality belonging to youth and midsummer.
