Today at the CICF Expo site, although the temperature was a bit high, shooting this Sora Kasugano school uniform outdoors still yielded very satisfactory photo results.
The cut of this school uniform is very authentic. The white shirt paired with a brown and white plaid bowtie and pleated skirt gives off a strong campus vibe when worn. To restore the character, a white twin-tail wig was chosen, fixed on top of the head with black hairpins. The bangs were trimmed just enough to cover the forehead, and the edges were styled to frame the face, making it look smaller. The night before, I deliberately used a curling iron to shape the arc of the hair ends, making the hair look fluffier and more natural, avoiding a top-heavy appearance.
In terms of clothing material, the shirt is made of a relatively soft fabric. To prevent wrinkles, however, it was carefully ironed before heading out in the morning, keeping the cuffs and collar neat and flat. The pleats of the plaid skirt are also very sharp; by paying a little attention to the skirt hem when sitting down, it maintains a great drape. The dark brown cross-body briefcase is a great prop with sturdy leather and retro metal buckles. The lower body is paired with Black stockings and platform Mary Jane shoes; since I had to walk around the convention all day, I chose shoes with slightly softer soles. Black stockings visually flatter the leg shape and match the overall academic style very well.
There were many people at the convention site, so we found a corner with purplish-red flowers and a modern glass curtain wall. The bright pinkish-purple background stood out and contrasted nicely with the white hair. During the shoot, I tried several different poses, such as sitting on the steps or slightly bending over while resting my chin on my hand. One backlit shot was actually a bit overexposed, but overall it retained the texture of the original photo without excessive retouching. The shooting equipment used was a 50mm prime lens, utilizing a wide aperture to blur the background and filter out the bustling crowds. The lighting around 3:00 to 4:00 PM is relatively soft, making it suitable for shooting at the edges of building shadows or places with reflected light, and the color reproduction under natural light is very high.
Regarding wig maintenance, the twin tails tend to tangle from friction with backpacks or passersby while walking, so I carried a small comb with me. The base makeup is a long-lasting type, but outdoors I still sweated a bit, so I reapplied loose powder once midway. Because Sora has a detached and slightly tsundere personality, her gaze shouldn't be too lively; it requires looking slightly downward or carrying a sense of innocence when looking at the lens. When sitting on the steps, crossing the legs not only makes the leg lines look slender, but also fits the character's temperament very well.
During the breaks between shoots, I chatted for a while with a few friends who also love this outfit, and everyone exchanged notes on convention check-in routes. Throughout the afternoon, besides shooting, I also browsed some booths inside the venue and bought a few favorite posters. The preparation time for this shoot wasn't very long, mainly spent organizing the wig and ironing the clothes. Being able to successfully finish shooting in this weather and capture great light and shadow has already met expectations.
