[Hatsune Miku cosplay] Deep Blue Butterfly Shadow: A Magical Moment in Vocaloid

For this deep blue butterfly shadow styling of Hatsune Miku in Vocaloid, the voluminous deep blue skirt alone took up most of the frame. To shoot this set, I cleared a space at home, using a white wall and light wood flooring as the backdrop. The costume features abundant details; the white semi-translucent sleeves have a wonderful drape, requiring careful smoothing beforehand to avoid noticeable creases. The deep blue skirt fabric has a flowing sheen, and the white wall provided excellent diffuse reflection, making the blue gradient on the skirt look remarkably soft. On my legs, I paired semi-translucent butterfly leg accessories; to maximize this crystal-clear visual texture, I specifically chose to go bare-legged instead of wearing stockings, allowing the holographic patches and golden ankle straps to catch and reflect crisp highlights cleanly. Being barefoot also added comfort during the mirror selfie shoot. In terms of composition, after comparing a curled-up sitting pose on the floor, I ultimately chose an extended leg sitting pose, which better elongated my body line and fully displayed the visual flow of the leg accessories and skirt. A plush doll beside me served as an accent prop for the scene. The main challenge during the shoot was the weight of the long wig and the immense volume of the skirt, requiring constant arm adjustments to find the optimal mirror angle. Because I held my phone in a pink case to take selfies, I could adjust framing in real time. The shoot felt like an experiment in costume design and lighting arrangement—the perspective distortion of the phone camera lens happened to complement the dreamy vibe required for this look. It not only showcased Hatsune Miku's classic charm reminiscent of the "World is Mine" aura, but also reflected the meticulous costume craftsmanship of the Vocaloid universe. This styling is instantly recognizable in color, while its layered textures provided plenty of creative freedom during shooting. Spending an entire afternoon tweaking lighting and poses yielded very satisfying results. When trying the floor-sitting pose earlier, the skirt piled up too messily, making the subject feel cramped. Switching to a dark high-backed chair with legs stretched out naturally allowed the deep blue skirt to cascade down the chair back onto the floor—a composition far more expansive, graceful, and ideal for highlighting the transparent butterfly leg accessories. Before every shutter tap, I visualized the flow of light and shadow. Minor mishaps were inevitable, like snagging the skirt on the chair or having strands of the long wig block the lens, but these constant adjustments made the experience complete. As part of the 2D Vision Project, this post thoroughly honors the Hatsune Miku Dream-Giving concept, meticulously refining everything from wig hue to accessories. Despite shooting in a real-world room, combining this costume with lighting successfully created an otherworldly 2D atmosphere. I personally love this blend of everyday elements with professional cosplay styling. Saying it wasn't tiring would be a lie, but seeing the final photos made every effort worthwhile.
